Icic. This anime makes me SO HUNGRY. Also makes me want to learn ho to cook. Hahaha. ERINA-SAMA!!! indeed. What a tsundere oujou-sama. You should see her in the S2 OP lol XD

I also noticed before that you enjoyed Prison School (anime). Did you also read the manga before the anime was announced for that one?

Glad to see you liked Shokugeki!! =3

Hmm.. now I know Koshimizu plays a wide range of roles, but I still think she is better at voicing female characters with lower voices (and/or who are badasses). :3

Lol "cherry picked," I like the term you chose! xD Well, I just tried to pick the most memorable songs from those 2 series that had the "trademark" Kajiura sound. :P The SAO tracks do have a more heavy/medieval sound to them (a bit like Attack on Titan).

This clip has her music from 5 diff series (I don't know all of them):

Xenosaga did come out a LONG time ago so I don't blame you. :P Ep II's combat felt more slow paced because it was more complicated than the first game's system. You had to hit the enemies 2 or 3 times in a row and could hit them in 3 diff areas (top, mid, bottom). Then you had to remember in which order to hit the areas that caused them to enter their weakened state... something like that. xD I don't remember entirely either. ^w^;

Kajiura's music is pretty easy to recognize. :x It's got a celtic-feel, some unknown language singing in the background, and lots of strings.

Promised Pain from Xenosaga III:
Mami's theme in Madoka:

I actually finished all Xenosaga games. I didn't name the first episode because its music was done by a different composer (Yasunori Mitsuda, who also composed for Xenogears).

Yeah... the second game wasn't that great. It was too short and the character designs were fugly! The combat system wasn't that bad tho. A little complicated, but fun once you get the hang of it. I just don't like the fact that they made all characters have access to the same skills. :S

The third game is the most balanced out of the three. It's like a mix of the first two. It has the best graphics, best character designs, fastest paced combat, best mecha system, and wraps up the story nicely (enough). Unfortunately, they dumbed down the combat system to a simple menu where you select attack, ether, etc. (Ever other generic JRPG.) :<

I really liked the first game's combat system. It's very unique (those combos, tech attacks, and slot-thingy-that-changes-each-turn!!!). Plus, it allows full customization of your characters. :3 My only beef with it is the really long animations that play when you use special moves.

Yoko Kanno* (my bad) x.x

I ran out of words so I ended up using "finally." xD

Yeah, I've heard a lot of people like the first arc, but not the second (bro-sis love, damsel in distress, etc). I'm not a fan of harems (not even reverse harems!). I prefer a balanced cast. =(

The reason I'm not impressed by SAO's music is because it's composed by Yuki Kajiura. I've played Xenosaga (episodes II & III), watched Noir, Madoka, and .hack//SIGN which are all games and anime she's worked on. After having heard so much of it, I've come to realize that her music always sounds the same. Sometimes, I can't even tell which game/anime her song comes from. Not to say she is a bad composer, she just doesn't produce very varied tracks (especially her newer ones). :/

I don't have a preference. As long as it suits the anime, is memorable and sounds good, I'm okay with it. The music of Cowboy Bebop is probably the best I've heard so far, composed by Yoko Kanna and full of jazz. Another good one is Samurai Champloo which is full of hip hop. I thought Shin Sekai Yori also had a pretty good OST.

I don't usually write this much, but for some reason I always reply to you in paragraphs. xD

By "less grindy," I meant how companies are trying to change things up so its less boring for the player when fighting mobs to level up. For example: the FATE system in FFXIV or the random events that occur during instances in PSO2.

About FFXIV, I agree with you. Square has very little experience with MMORPGs and are simply doing their own thing with FFXIV. I think this is nice because the game feels different from other titles. Combat in FFXIV is kinda slowpaced whereas the current trend in MMORPGs is action oriented with a crosshair in the middle and almost no point-and-click. (Some examples: TERA, Vindictus, Dragon Nest, Blade & Soul, and ArcheAge.)

Similarly with PSO2. PSO2 is action oriented, but that's because it's always been that way since the first game. Yet the game feels very fresh compared to other titles. There are some features in PSO2 that I've never seen before in MMORPG (summoning NPC versions of your friends to fight alongside you, switching between multiple Weapon palettes and Photon Arts, etc). Imo, maybe it's because MMORPGs are not as popular in Japan, but these two Japanese online games have a "console game" feel to them which make them a very unique experience.

LoL is pretty fun in that things can turn out completely different from what you initially expect. The rules are simple yet there are plenty of different ways to play (by mixing and matching champions, item builds, runes, masteries, team comps, roles, lanes, objectives, etc). There are also almost 100 champions to choose from each with their own unique abilities. Finally, LoL is also a team game where communication and teamwork is important. It feels rewarding when you accomplish something by working together. It's more fun to play with friends than alone. ;)

I don't watch SAO because I'm pretty sure I'll hate it. A story about some average guy that suddenly becomes amazing in a game, gets a wife and his own harem? No thank you. :P The animation, music, story and characters also do not impress me.

The only strategy game I play is probably LoL. I'm not great though, mostly playing it to play with my friends. :P I don't like SRPGs/TRPGs (like Fire Emblem) cuz the battles take forever. I tend to fall asleep or get impatient with those kind of titles. ;w; Ohh, I have "We Love Katamari." It's a cute game~

I think both JRPGs and MMORPGs are grindy in general, which is why I don't play them as much anymore. (Also, most JRPGs need more than 40-50 hours to complete, which is a lot of time for me x.x) I actually quit MMORPGS a few years ago for the same reason you mentioned: they require you to spend huge amounts of time on them yet at the end there is nothing meaningful to be gained. (So what if you're max level or have lots of in-game currency? Also, unpopular games getting shutdown. Etc.) :(

After I quit MMORPGs, I switched to more casual MMOs like S4 League and LoL (not exactly casual, but you don't have to grind). I'm really interested in how MMORPGs evolve/improve (how they try to be less grindy) over the years so I've kept an eye on them (especially the ones being developed in Japan and Korea). For example, last year, I played Phantasy Star Online 2 on the Japanese servers. The game eventually becomes grindy, but it has a lot of unique features which are quite fun the first time you try them~

About FFXIV: ARR, I signed up for the PS3 beta. I played it for like 2-3 days just to get a feel of what the gameplay was like. :3

Info about localized SAO LNs:

Oh I didn't know that about the dual-audio thing. I usually would really LOVE to have dual-audio especially if the original game has amazing VAs and voice acting. >.<

Pokemon is actually not quite my type of game. xD (So grindy!) I'm just really excited this time around cuz the main game is going 3D for the first time and is packing A LOT of new features.

I used to be into JRPGs and MMOs/MMORPGs. Now, I'd say I play a little bit of everything?

What about you? :)
seiyuu_ Sep 22, 2013 9:30 PM
First time seeing it. ;P

Seeing as how SAO's light novel got localized due to its popularity overseas, it's possible this game will get a western release as well since SnK is all over the Internet.

I don't really see myself playing a SnK game though. :/
(Doesn't look my type of game + not a hardcore fan of SnK.)

I tried to state my opinion as clearly as possible. ( ・ω・`)

Ledo as a character is fine. It's just the story that really bugged me.

Haha, indeed those anime have very "deep" stories. But that's not the reason why I watch them! (ノ⊙ヮ⊙)ノ~

The views count even if you are logged in. (Proof: I'm always logged in :P)

I generally dislike predictable plots, but the string of events that occurred towards the end of Gargantia really killed it for me. (The squids are humans? A robot's gone berserk, believes she's a God, and starts sacrificing people? Really?) At that point, I thought the plot was terrible and was left very unimpressed. :/ Chambers may be the best character, but he is not enough to redeem the entire show.

Overall, I felt the anime was too naive for my tastes. The beginning was nice when Ledd needed Chambers to translate everything for him because of the language barrier. But besides that, there was nothing else that I really enjoyed about the show.

Lastly, I am not a fan of Urobochi Gen (the scriptwriter). This is the third anime series that I've seen that is written by him. And so far, I dislike ALL of his shows. =(

I do refresh a lot, but I think it's mostly because I used to check my list everyday to see what I still needed to watch. That and the fact that I was a little obsessed with getting my ratings correct~

You should check out how many anime list views my friend with the Super Star icon has. :P
