Honestly this show is terrible but i can’t say i didn’t enjoy it. I was on the fence about wether or not this show would turn bad or not for a really long time but towards the end around episode 15 it just imploded in on itself and all of the bad parts just built up like a sticky goo over the good parts.
I must say though that i did enjoy it quite a bit, but the end really does kill it. I liked the characters, the world, and it brought forth a lot of interesting ideas. The art and animation are fantastic, but all
...
the while it was constantly littered with minor grievances. Intrusive fanservice, awkward dialogue, and some light pretense.
I honestly really did get invested in the relationship between hiro and zero two. It was mysterious, and constantly a little bit tense on wether or not zero two was or wasn’t a toxic influence on him. For best enjoyment you might just want to quit at whatever episode their relationship is finally cleared out, that’s the best the show gets. After that there’s a few overly-wholesome episodes where nothing really happens before it starts ruining it’s world and characters horribly.
Hiro has always toed the line between being a blank-slate and a genuinely interesting character but as it goes on it becomes increasingly clear he’s more of a slate for 13 year old boys to imagine themselves onto. All of the side characters are much more interesting than himself, most of which also kinda ruined after episode 15.
Overall? I enjoyed it, but most of it in spite of the ending. The ending really sucks and nothing makes sense anymore. I mostly enjoyed the earlier parts when the world stayed mysterious and zero two felt like she could turn out to be a threat at any second. The animation is fantastic, the designs are very striking, and it’s such a shame such interesting ideas had to be wasted on a messy, slow trainwreck.

I think this show is a real breath of fresh air, and as it goes on I really hope it develops into something quite special.
The first episode honestly does a perfect job of introducing you to the show, I fell in love with it right away. It gives you just enough information to let you know what’s going on, but understands that it’s ideas are extremely weird and it completely rolls with that. The following episodes thus far have mostly dealth with the strangeness of the situation and fleshed it out, to make it feel more believable in a real world setting. It completely revels
...
in it’s strange high-concept premise. It really doesn’t care if you think it’s too weird, as if no idea is too weird or dumb to write a story around.
As of now, not much of a plot has been introduced, and it’s mostly running off of the strength of it’s main cast. The main character, Amakasu, has an extremely strong personality. She’s a social dimwit, and the writers at no point feel the need to make her look cool or to make her social ineptitude something cutesy; it is a legitimate problem the main character has to overcome. Even so, her inability to communicate at all is extremely funny and relatable. It’s a really nice change of pace in my opinion to have a main character not be the coolest or most tragic character.
The art and animation are fantastic. The style and character design are dumb and goofy but rendered in wonderful colors, and the whole look of the show has a soft warmness to it that looks really pleasing. The designs of the dragons are really fun as well, blobby and organic but mixed with really detailed plane parts. It creates a really interesting visual contrast.
Sound wise there’s not much to report on, it’s a simple orchestral soundtrack. It serves its purpose and doesn’t get in the way, but i really don’t care for the opening song. Good thing the ending song is catchy as hell.

Overall I really enjoyed this show, but I do think it has some glaring problems.
This season is split in half, with the first part focusing on Jonathan Joestar and the second focusing on Joseph Joestar. I didn’t care much for the first part. Although the elements were there to make it just entertaining enough to sit through, the second part really triumphs over it in a lot of aspects.
The first part really only starts picking up after the 3rd episode, after which Hamon is introduced. Only then does the crazy buff fighting dude stuff really start happening, but it was few and farbetween, and the
...
stakes were often pretty low from what I remember. All in all, the visuals didn’t feel as strong in this part either, nor where there any musical themes that stood out to me.
The second part was one hell of a ride compared to the first, and really made sitting through it all worth it! Joseph is much more of an interesting character than Jonathan, and Ceasar is an extremely memorable dude. The character designs felt a lot more stylish, the fights were much more interesting, and the art felt a little more wild overall. The Pillarmen theme is extremely cool in my opinion. The story felt overall more dense and compact despite how obvious it is that it was all written on a whim. That’s really part of what makes this series so interesting, though.
I really enjoyed it, but the first part really dampens the overall experience for me. The second part made up for a lot of it though, and I hope the series continues to become increasingly bizarre.

This is my favorite anime, probably ever. I love this show to death and I think everyone should at least give it a try.
Kill la Kill is a perfect blend of action and comedy, with sinscere storytelling and wonderful characters. It’s full of high-concept garbage and it just keeps piling on it’s strange badassery. It’s got a perfect 1:1 ratio of male to female fanservice, truly progressive! This show is full of nudity, but wether you want to interpet that nudity in an artistic way or just want to gawk at beefcakes doesn’t really matter because the show does both.
This show is full of opposites.
...
Red vs. blue, black vs. white, individuality vs. homogeny, purity vs. sin, high class vs. low class, honesty vs. hypocrisy, and I could go on and on and if I were to rewatch it again there’s probably 10 more themes to pull from it. This show is dense with themes, but ultimately the message in the end is that with most of these there isn’t a good side or a bad side. Ultimately this show isn’t high art nor low art. It’s both and it’s neither, it’s just Kill la Kill. Ultimately what’s good or pure is up to opinion so everything might as well be pure and purity doesn’t matter in the end. Nobody is cut from the same cloth, and that’s great.
The art and animation are absolutely outstanding. The background work is rough, wethered but in the most aesthetically pleasing way possible. The color themes are utilised whenever possible. All of the character designs are perfectly suited to both the personalities and the style of the show. The animation can go from silly and flat to incredibly kinetic and full of detail at the drop of a hat, and it pulls of both perfectly and knows just when to use what.
The soundtrack is incredible. It’s an eclectic mix of rock, orchestra and drums. It sets the tone of any scene perfectly. There are a ton of character themes and all of them are fantastic. Don’t Lose Your Way is one of the most memorable themes I’ve ever heard. Satsuki’s theme is an incredibly militaristic and bombastic brass orchestra and it just oozes power. Mako Mankanshoku’s theme is memorably silly and the list goes on.
Overall, I would consider it a perfect anime. I don’t say this ever, but for american audiences I would definetly recommend watching the dubbed version. The voice acting is fantastic, and in my personal opinion the slight cheesyness fits the theme of the show being both campy and serious at the same time perfectly. Plus there’s a lot of incredible visuals and jokes that will fly right over your head, and the dub ads a lot of comedy to otherwise normal dialogue. This show is pure fun, an easy 10/10 to me.

I don’t know what you’d watch this show for. If you want to gawk at hot shirtless dudes, you can probably get a larger quantity of those elsewhere. If you genuinely want a story about homosexuality, you’re probably stuck with Yuri on Ice because this show isn’t going to give any of that. If you want gripping character drama or some kind of intense sports anime, there’s much better shows to watch.
Overall, this show is extremely boring to the point of aggravation. There’s nothing this show does that other products can’t and don’t do better. Aside from the animation, which has Kyoto Animation’s grubby little
...
perfection hands all over it. Even then, there are kyoani shows that have better animation and aren’t boring.
