Who am I?
They call me Jacqueline. I'm currently based in Vienna, where I study geography (quitted Japanese Studies, 'cause I'd like not to starve ._.). I'm also pretty darn good at wasting my time, usually I achieve this by writing and doing roleplaying games. I also like to sing (doesn't mean I'm good at it), to travel and to drink - responsibly. Maybe I like anime, too, but then again you can't really tell.
Me and anime
I've been enjoying anime since my edgy teen years (started around 2009, which was basically the time I could not just optically tell anime and Western cartoons apart). Although I haven't seen that many shows, I can at least say that I somewhat liked most of them. Usually I bingewatch anime, like several shows a week, but then again sometimes I completely forget that something called anime even exists.
What I like about anime
First and foremost the variety of genre. There's always something out there for every mood and state of mind - I'm as likely to find a dead serious story- and dialogue-driven thriller as I am to find a cute slice of life show to enjoy with a side of biscuits and tea. Most of the time I prefer shows with Psycho, Mystery, Superpower or - yeah, that one doesn't fit - School elements, whereas I'm not a huge fan of Mecha, Battle Shounen or RomComs in general. I'd still watch an anime despite certain genres, although I'd also be more reluctant to start.
What I like about manga
...uh, that you can absorb quantities of plot within a short amount of time. Yeah, that's basically it. Sorry. :c
How do I rate?
Probably, I'm one of those people that aren't that harsh or critical. I don't want to analyze every minor decision or joke a show makes. I look at the characters, the story(telling) and add extra points (or subtract them) for outstanding features, which might as well be heavily dependent on my personal taste. :P
That basically means:
-personal liking
-achieving what the story/premise/genre does intend to achieve
-well-written characters (more than one character trait, relatable motifs, character development)
There might be some inconsistencies, because I rated a lot of shows years after I actually watched them, so there probably is as lot of biased memory involved.
And there might be some points subtracted for overuse of sexism as a poor excuse for bad character writing and bland comedy elements. Honestly, everyone likes boobs, like literally erveryone, but there are alternative media where all these fantasies might be addressed, so stop putting one-dimensional girls in my anime. q-q They're supposed to be 2D after all.
