1. Higashi no Eden: See below.
2. Mirai Nikki: This was the first anime series I watched (besides Naruto and Pokemon) to show me that anime could potentially be a bit more than a kids show. I then watched Eden of the east and continued from there. These two shows are why I still watch anime.
3. Hachimitsu to Clover: Along with its second season, I felt that this anime had everything I like in anime (besides animated fights/blood). The comedy was perfect, but didn't take too much away from the drama/romance aspect. The imagery used is also nice to see. I don't know what made it so memorable to me...and that ending though. It also makes me sad that more Josei anime isn't made, if more would be like this.
4. AnoHana: First time I cried at an anime. Even though the whole story seemed to be setting up for that. The show had its flaws (mainly in the beginning/middle), but I liked it a lot. The characters were relatable and the show was memorable.
5. Bamboo Blade: Not many people know about this show and it's a shame. Great comedy and while it is pretty much a "cute girls doing cute things" anime, they don't rely on that too much. There is a decent enough story and the animation is quite well done. Would be great to get a second season.
6. Tokyo Godfathers: I shouldn't have to say why this is here. Great film.
7. Kuroko no Basket: While being unrealistic as all hell, this introduced me to the sports anime genre and actually got me hyped. I actually started wanting to play basketball more and wanted to some cool passes. Made basketball a lot more fun to me.
8. 3-gatsu no Lion: Some of my favorite art I have seen in anime. Really highlights the main character's struggles and ordeals in his life. The character interactions are good as are all the characters. This anime had the "it" factor for me.
9. Neon Genesis Evangelion: I actually really liked this show and it could have easily been a 10 if the ending was done correctly. I also didn't dislike the budget cuts made for animation by the use of freeze frames. I thought that these made some scenes more intense (ex. train scene, and the major cut scene with Unit 01 near the end). I also didn't mind the character Shinji which normally makes you either really like or hate this anime. A great amount of mind-f*cking which I enjoy from time to time ;) and the complexity of the story and characters made for some great viewing material.
10. Omoide Poroporo: Ghibli, Miyazaki, themed toward adults. What more needs to be said? Besides the mediocre story the main character's struggle is highlighted nicely.
