(SPOILER WARNING FOR HUNTER X HUNTER, FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST, AND NARUTO + SHIPPUDEN)

Season 3 is bad. It's the point where you finally realize that all the potential the earlier seasons flashed was no more than just that: unrealized potential. And all the problems with the writing weren’t blips, they become a constant problem that deflates the tension and drama in every arc.

Every time Deku we’re told Deku is risking his body only for him to be fine after a day in the hospital, every time a villain is hyped up only for them to lose while barely accomplishing anything, every time stakes are established and then ...

Aku no Hana (Anime) add
Aku no Hana, or "Flowers of Evil" began life as a manga that published from 2009 to 2014. It told the story of a young man named Kasuga, and his struggles with growing up and youth. He obsesses over the poetry of Baudelaire; specifically The Flowers of Evil, despite not understanding it. Also in tow were Saeki, his love interest; and Nakamura, a devillish powder keg of a young girl that serves as a source of life and youthful expression, as well as a counter to Kasuga's self-loating and self-pity. While somewhat unbalanced in terms of structure, it does a good job of telling an ...

I honestly don't believe what I'm reading for the top reviews for this. Actually decent? Surprisingly good? What nonsense. Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale is a giant dumpster fire. It might even be worse than the Gun Gale Online arc. Why you may ask?

For one, the story is pointless. Everything is reset after everything is done and nothing has really changed for the main characters. No one dies, no one suffers any permanent calamity. The brain damage threat comes and goes with zero long-term consequences.

On top of that, it's full of deus ex machina and plot holes. How is Yui able to recover the save ...

Durarara!!x2 Ten starts with a pretty solid opening, giving you a taste of the setting and the characters with a song that reminds me a bit of the openings used in the original show. Once the opening ceases, Durarara!!x2 Ten proceeds to spin its wheels for the next 20 or so minutes. And eventually, it just gets stuck in the mud.

I had my problems with Durarara!!x2 Shou, the follow-up to 2010's Durarara!!. My main issues with Shou were that it seemed to meander aimlessly for long stretches of time, its comically bad animation, and its disinterest in actually keeping the audience engaged with its characters. ...

[MAJOR SPOILER WARNING. THIS REVIEW DISCUSSES THE ENTIRE PLOT OF THE MOVIE.]

I've been thinking about this movie constantly since I've watched it and I've come to one conclusion: most people don't understand the character writing in this movie.

I've seen many people criticizing Seita's actions as conceited and selfish, but they're missing the bigger picture here: that Grave of the Fireflies is at its heart a criticism of Japanese culture during and after World War 2, and Seita represents Japan.

Seita is undeniably arrogant and selfish in this film; it's the source of frustration among many critics who claim he could've done more to save her and ...

Gone. There is no sadder word in the English language than "gone". What was present is here no longer, and can never be brought back. It's a word laced with tragedy, and is synonymous with the sands of time and inevitability.

And if there is any one word that I'd associate with Planetarian: Chiisana Hoshi no Yume (Planetarian: The Reverie of a Little Planet), it is "gone". Planetarian takes place on a post apocalyptic Earth, 30 years after a failed Space Colonization Project has failed and a deadly rain continuously falls upon the few humans who are left alive.

But the meat of what makes up ...

“Some dance to remember, some dance to forget”-Hotel California, 1976

There are many philosophies when it comes to sport and competition. Do you play to win or do you play not to lose? Do you value winning over everything, or do you consider the relationships you build through competition and teamwork more important? Can effort win out over talent? It’s questions like these that Ping Pong the Animation revolves around.

Based on the manga by Taiyou Matsumoto (Tekkon Kinkreet) and directed by the phenomenal Masaaki Yuasa (The Tatami Galaxy, Kaiba, Mind Game), Ping Pong the Animation aired during the Spring 2014 season and ran for 11 ...

[SPOILER WARNING]

Among all the genres and subgenres of anime I’ve come across, none seems to have a worse reputation than the horror genre. While reputations vary from show to show, one series that consistently garnered good reviews and praise was the Higurashi series.

The Higurashi series started back in 2002 as a series of visual novel games on PC, with ports coming later to PS2, PS3, Playstation Vita, Nintendo DS, iOS, and Android. The first 4 games of the series (Onikakushi-hen, Watanagashi-hen, Tatarigoroshi-hen, and Himatsubushi-hen) made up the “Higurashi no Naku Koro ni” arc and told the story of Keiichi Maebara and his misadventures in ...

Mayoiga (Anime) add
Spoiler
[MAJOR SPOILER WARNING]

Have you ever been forced to listen to an argument that you aren't a part of? That's what Mayoiga is like.

Mayoiga (The Lost Village) is a 12-episodes series that aired during the Spring 2016 season, and is essentially an exercise in making an audience as irritated and miserable as possible. As I said earlier, Mayoiga is a lot like listening to an argument that you aren't a part of. You aren't personally invested, you don't want to listen to them, and in that moment you probably hate everyone involved with the fighting. Due to the countless number of fuck-ups in Mayoiga, all ...

I hate to write two scathing reviews in a row, but as it turned out Big Order just happened to end before any of the other shows I was going to review. I was almost certain that Big Order would win the feces-coated award for worst anime of the spring 2016 season, but as it turns out another show airing snatched it away. More on that one later...

So, what is Big Order? The original Big Order manga started publishing on September 26, 2011 and is currently ongoing. The series itself was actually created by none other than Sakae Esuno, the original creator of Mirai Nikki! ...
