Yami Shibai is a short, but sweet anthology series, in which several pre-existing creepy stories from Japan were adapted into animation. Naturally the impact varies from story to story and some of them could have perhaps benefited from slightly more time. The animation is very bare bones, but the unique style and good timing compensate for that quite nicely. As with most horror/spooky series, the sound is the most important aspect, in builduing tension and Yami Shibai does a good job, with the select, few sounds, it has to offer. The ending theme is also very nice.
Fazit: Light, but fresh horror series, which is probably ...

Saying that this anime is so bad, that it is good might feel overly simplistic and at this point probably redundant, however it remains a pretty accurate summary of my feelings towards this series, I would even dare to say that, aside from Garzeys Wing, no other anime, that I have seen, has rivaled Big Order in this regard.
The OST is surprisingly nice, there are some pleasent colours and the directing is certainly unique, but if you are not delighted by the terrible characters and story these things will definitely not win you over, however if you are, than Big Order might just be ... |
