It was my favorite anime at some point, but as the time passed I began understand how bad some plot points were.

eh, season 3 will most likely be not as good as previous ones, as a manga reader everything after season 2 just turned to bad writing. Even Hajime said himself he regretted many things in his writing. I don't wanna spoil anything, but what he is doing with the story right now is just bad...

I guess we'll just disagree on...pretty much everything then.

I have a feeling you should have actually watched the final arc before making some of the points you did. Would you call it homage or inspiration if you directly Life the plot and/or overall narrative structure of a show, let alone two shows?

I think what you and a lot of other positive reviews fail to realize is that most of us who rated the show poorly understand that it's about togetherness and the betterment of humanity and relationships and sex and all that. It's just that the world-building is so nonsensical and it's aesthetic and sex symbolism is self-defeating at points, as well as that the overall narrative often makes no sense and it's cast isn't remotely interesting enough for us to care about the emotional exploits of these cardboard cut-outs who are often forced to switch personalities or lose traits immediately for the sake of the narrative. You and others may disagree with at least some of this, but it isn't like we "don't get it" are are "purposely being unfair". We understand, but we just can't see much merit or find much to like about the show.

That's a loose connection and the trope of a futuristic city is not uncommon for super robots shows
meanwhile the entire aliens plot thread is a carbon copy of gunbuster, down to taking streloiizia into the enemy and blowing up

The finale arc of DitF is super rushed and has the worst and most cliche villain I’ve ever seen. Just letting ya know.
