absurdist comedies with a decent amount of blood, violence, and fourth wall commentary. and cute girls, of course.

If you liked Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha add

...then you might like Flip Flappers add

Both are mahou shoujo series that seem to be aimed at something more like adult men than at little girls. If the magical girl elements are a strong part of what draws you to either of these series you'll probably like the other one.

If you liked Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu add

Politics and warfare from multiple perspectives. Pretty much the same exact thing as LoGH with a much shorter runtime, though there's probably more romance per capita in this movie.

...then you might like Mugen no Juunin: Immortal add

Period setting series with mature themes and a tone reminiscent of the Japanese golden age of film samurai movies. The Immortal is a little more fantastical but I imagine interests in these series will overlap for most people.

Cute girls transform and fight stuff. Enormous amounts of fan service and action. A mecha flare. BANG BANG BAM *butt shot* TATATATATATATATA *boob shot* BOOM

Both tiny shorts, both extremely cute and hilarious, both make me wish they were much longer due to their quality.

If you liked Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha add

...then you might like Senki Zesshou Symphogear add

Cute girls transform and fight. Similar tone, themes, some leaning into mecha. The main difference is Nanoha relies a bit more on it's drama and Symphogear has more action and plot twists. And I guess that symphs sing when they fight but that's a superficial difference. I'd be shocked if somebody liked one and disliked the other.

If you liked Flip Flappers add

...then you might like Twin Angel Break add

Magical girls mixed with more adult themes, goes off the beaten path in both instances. Twin Angel is much more parodic in nature and Flip Flappers is more serious in tone. Both seem to be geared toward an adult male audience, especially Twin Angel as it's advertising pachislot parlors, so if you're a big dude that likes magical girls both of these series should appeal to you.

There is of course here the superficial aspects that make these series similar. Groups of high school girl making crap. Much more similar to each other in tone, setting, and comedy than either is to New Game, for example. The reason I've gone out of my way to link them together is they are both major examples of an incredible female lead trapped inside of a bad anime.

This series reminded me more of LoGH more than almost any other series, despite it's appearance. Politics between various factions set in space. The atmosphere is very similar, I guess it makes some sense as both series share an episode director. A panning shot of a space-faring craft, discussion on the current situation among various characters, combat in space where the fight has some kind of consequence on the political situation. You see things through the perspectives of characters in both sides of a fight. The first season of MKR isn't much like it at all but on the other hand is a great adventure story with a lot of cool monster fights.

Babes fighting with supernatural powers. Lots of fan service and action. Most or all characters are hot chicks.

Though characters are pretty different these series feel very similar to each other, particularly when it comes to monster fights and adventure. Both series display a wide range of 'boss' type monsters with many different kinds of abilities. Plus superficial similarities such as saving a world that hinges on female characters who are being imprisoned in a fantasy setting.

One character says and does things to try and get the other character to physically assault them. The other character then proceeds to physically assault them. Pretty sophisticated.

Both old fantasy OVAs based off of RPGs. Wizardry is more like a DnD party and Ys is more like following a hero but both have cool monster fights, magic, stuff of that nature.

...then you might like Yawaraka Sangokushi Tsukisase!! Ryofuko-chan add

Lolis, parody, fan service, henshin. Same exact kind of thing.

Legs, swords, elegance, and a focus on interpersonal relationships. Similar character designs, competition between characters, artsy scenes. Both are fairly unique series but share many visual and thematic elements.

Same kind of thing, but Orgel's a little longer. Someone finds a cute little loli thing and takes care of it for a bit before it poops out on them.

Both series have episodes that follow dramatically different themes from episode to episode, and are filled with comedy and absurdity. Kyouka reminds me a lot of Excel with her rapid elongated speaking style.

Both are parodies with lots of cute stupid lolis and fan service. Also have some more superficial comparisons such as transformation sequences and weird animal companions.

Both explore unique fantasy worlds with cute cartoonish characters that are exposed to death and violence. Made in Abyss is more about exploration and setting, Strange Dawn is more about war policy and romance, but both are more sophisticated than their appearances. Both have cozy fantasy settings.

Both have cartoonish character styles paired with contrasting dramatic storylines that explore a unique fantasy world.

If you liked Saraiya Goyou add

...then you might like Onihei add

Samurai-centered series set in Edo that have a cozy period atmosphere. Both are more preoccupied with characters and interactions, and the themes of sympathy towards criminals are present in both series. I would be very surprised if you liked one and disliked the other.

If you liked Moetan add

...then you might like Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel: Kyunkyun☆Tokimeki Paradise!! add

very similar atmospheres of not really giving a shit with these two series. lots of comedy and seinen appeal. moetan is definitely heavier in the fan service department. also the typical superficial comparisons of both being mahou shoujo series with lolis.

both series seem to have the opposite of a serious tone when it comes to villain motivations and plot coherence. plenty of seinen-leaning comedy and fan service, though moetan tends to lay it on more thickly. they also both have among the best transformation sequences in the mahou shoujo genre.

...then you might like Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu. add

similar types and levels of comedy and fan service. sexy transformation sequences. if you enjoy the comedy in one you will enjoy the comedy in the other. moetan has a superior amount of loli.

Medieval battlefields with a splash of fantasy, politics between warlords, an adult setting, and both have some of the darkest and most shocking moments in medieval/fantasy series, presented to you in that 80s/90s way that you don't get as much anymore.

At first these series seem lighthearted and cute, but reveal themselves to have darker themes. Intense love and romance is a central device. Both stories are told abstractly and non-traditionally. Both are beautiful.
