Do you still want to learn about anime?
MoesianThracian Apr 30, 2021 6:20 AM
Hello, I saw one of your posts on a fellow MAL member. It was: "Hello, what are some good sites you would recommend for learning more about anime/manga, could be Yt channels books, blogs, anything really, cheers!!!"

I recommend you look into the scanlation scene, which was the driving force behind the popularity of Japanese comics/ manga and Japanimation/ Anime, specifically in the West, at first, then throughout the World. Check out this website: https://www.insidescanlation.com/history/index.html

I'd just recommend watching anime instead.

American animation that uses an anime style is accepted on Kitsu but not on Myanimelist. MAL defines anime as “Asian cartoons” so anything made in China, Japan, South Korea, and even North Korea. MAL is also considering adding “The Nutshack” since that was made in the Philippines. Sadly, if MAL ever does add it, it would soon reach #1 as a joke.

I just found out something amusing! As you're aware, nearly every Japanese voice actor who was active in the late 80s and early 90s played someone on Galactic Heroes. Most people know that Reinhardt = Vegeta and Reuenthal = Cell, but did you Machungo shares a seiyuu with Freeza?! I totally missed that when I watched LOtG! I actually want to rewatch it next year. I last saw the original series about 5 years ago now.

You didn't like Kaguya?! But...but...it's like the Death Note of romance!!! Lol, I've yet to try that series myself. I've actually avoided it on purpose because I can't stand the descriptions people have given me while trying to get me to watch it. I swear I've heard "Death Note of Romance" about 25 separate times from different people!

Cursed Youtube video from 2009. Back when this was first posted, NOBODY in the US knew what it was spoofing!

Anilist is DEFINITELY run more competently than this shithole! lol

I haven't read any reviews or forum posts by you, but I like what you've written so far! You're fun to talk to!

I believe the psychological term you're looking for is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_drive
literaturenerd Aug 21, 2020 3:57 PM
We ARE talking about this guy right? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Schmitt

In general, I'm not nearly as authoritarian as Schmitt. I was libertarian in high school and today I'm honestly more centrist. I tend to lean left on social issues and I'm fairly moderate on fiscal policy. I live in the United States, which is in general more conservative than most of Europe but less conservative in many ways than Japan. When I use terms like "left" or "center" I mean relative to American politics.

You mentioned in your profile that you prefer Anilist, so I was just curious.
literaturenerd Aug 21, 2020 3:40 PM
I'm more into reading fiction, science, and history than political theory. As a result, I know very little about Schmitt's theorem. Apparently a very rough summary is that "Since Mankind is fundamentally evil, we need dominion". In other words, Mankind is better off having someone else make our decisions because we will always choose the wrong thing. If that's Schmitt's theorem, it seems similar to the argument of the Grand Inquisitor in the novel Brothers Karamazov. A position I fundamentally disagree with.

As for Touhou, I've never really been a huge fan of "bullet hell" games. I'm more into JRPGs and any games with an emphasis on exploration and world building. Yeah, I enjoy torturing myself with challenging games like Sekiro, but only if there's a strong emphasis on atmosphere and the aforementioned exploration. I like to feel that my suffering has meaning.

BTW, what is your anilist account? I have one, but never use it. It's just a backup that I haven't used in a while.
literaturenerd Aug 21, 2020 3:29 PM
That's certainly fair enough! I too am always looking for new people on MAL to talk to!
literaturenerd Aug 21, 2020 3:16 PM
I’m not sure. Why are you asking? Did you just want someone on MAL to discuss religion with?
literaturenerd Aug 21, 2020 11:39 AM
I am agnostic as to the existence of a higher power. However, Humanity has created many Gods with countless religions and origin myths. While there may be a God, I don’t personally believe in a devil. Mankind is capable of enough evil without the need of an external force.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
