Nishigori graduated from Tottori Yonago East High and went through Toei's Animation Laboratory before joining Gainax. He wanted to create animation such as FLCL, which prompted him to do that. He made his debut as key animator on Mahoromatic and debuted as storyboarder and animation director in Puchi Puri Yuushii at the age of 24. His work on the Top wo Nerae! 2 OVA lead him to become the character designer of Gainax next big project, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.
