I love it when people blame one single person for the quality of a show, blaming the director for something he isn't even primarily responsible for is outright ignorance

This might be one of the most misunderstood directors out there. He might indeed be a terrible adaptor, but as a director he is excellent!
The thing is that he focuses his directorial works on two central themes: compassion and forgiveness. His protagonists are not supposed to win by annihilating the enemies, but by empathizing with them and reaching a compromise. And Kanbe makes sure it is portrayed masterfully! I'd even dare to call him "the Fritz Lang of the East", as he takes the "mediator between the head and the hands must be the heart" thing very seriously and to its utmost consequences.
Besides, although the bad parts of his works can be really bad, the good ones are exceptionally good! The Klimt-inspired openings are some of the most iconic in anime history. Equally iconic are many of the insert songs he commissions: Lilium, Servante du Feu, Isabella's Lullaby...
If you don't like what he does and want to criticize him, that's ok. Nobody is perfect, and for sure he has a lot to improve as a filmmaker. But before you do it, try to understand what he is doing and where he is trying to go.

@MahoHiyajo he didn’t storyboard or direct that soulless episode, at least get your facts right lmao.

MahoHiyajo | Feb 22, 11:27 PM
Fiery hot take: This dude was never good, and the directing in Promised Neverland S1 was subpar, with some incredibly bizarre decisions taken like getting Krone to monologue to a doll. He was just carried by one of the best single arcs in Manga. Now he has to direct crap content, it's suddenly showing how boring and soulless his shot compositions are, and how he's framing scenes. Like last episode, it wasn't GOOD content, but meeting Norman's Lambda crew was framed in the most unimaginative way possible in comparison to the manga's panelling.

LOL at everyone talking shit about Promised Neverland Season 2 here. Anyways, I gotta give props to this guy for his work on Elfen Lied.

Season 1: Oh my God! A genius! Good job!
Season 2: You suck! you are a disgrace!

Honestly ... the disgrace is the fandom, not him.
Have a good day.

At least you tried with Neverland S2.
The series ended with S1.

To the people who are faulting the director for the stuff that's happening in the anime as of currently:

Reminder that the mangaka is supervising the season and the material that is providing, so I don't think it'd be a good idea to fault the director for following what the mangaka wants in the anime adaptation.
