Tokiwa began drawing manga in the third year of elementary school, having admired Fujiko F. Fujio's Doraemon series. In her sixth year of elementary school, Tokiwa made a resolution that she would debut as a manga artist by the time she graduated from middle school. Her pen name is derived from Tokiwa-sou, a Tokyo apartment building which housed renowned manga artists such as Osamu Tezuka in the 1950s and 1960s. |
