New 'High School! Kimengumi' TV Anime Announces Additional Cast

The official website for the new television anime adaptation of Motoei Shinzawa's High School! Kimengumi (High School! Funny-face Club) manga revealed the additional cast and a character visual (pictured) on Tuesday. The new anime will air on Fridays at 11:30 p.m. in Fuji TV's noitaminA programming block, starting January 2026.

You Nihiruda: Nobuhiko Okamoto (Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou)
Nakasudou Omiya: Toshiki Horikita
Kensaku Meri: Yuuhi Asagiri (Onegai Patron-sama!)
Ranto Jougai: Masafumi Kobatake (Gorilla no Kami kara Kago sareta Reijou wa Ouritsu Kishidan de Kawaigarareru)
Koeru Tabuchi: Kazuki Ogawa (Deatte 5-byou de Battle)

Kazuaki Seki (Ranma ½ (2024) opening sequence director) is helming the new anime at Seven. Shigeru Murakoshi (Zombieland Saga) is in charge of series composition, while Yuka Abe (Fire Force: Season 2 animation director) is designing the characters.

Shinzawa serialized the original 3-nen Kimengumi (Third Year Funny-face Club) manga in Weekly Shounen Jump from October 1980 to April 1982, followed by the High School! Kimengumi sequel manga in the same magazine from April 1982 to July 1987. Shueisha published the 20th and final volume in February 1988.

As I'm almost 12 episodes deep into the original series, I'm very much excited for this remake.



The original has some really fun turn-off-your-brain dumb humor, though it does have a good few moments where it falters. And this is even excluding the... uh... racially insensitive moments.
