'Sousou no Frieren 2nd Season' Unveils Main Staff, Teaser Promo

The Sousou no Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey's End) panel at Anime Expo 2025 unveiled the main staff and a teaser promotional video for the second season on Friday. The second season adapting Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe's fantasy adventure manga is scheduled to premiere in January 2026.

The first season premiered with a two-hour special featuring the first four episodes on Nippon TV's Kinyou Roadshow programming block on September 29 last year. Subsequent episodes were broadcast on the station and its affiliates' Friday Anime Night programming block. The anime series ended with 28 episodes on March 22, adapting the first 60 chapters.

Crunchyroll streamed the anime with subtitles and later dubbed it in multiple languages, including English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Muse Asia streamed it in Southeast Asia. Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Disney+ also streamed the anime.

Yamada and Abe began serializing the manga in Shounen Sunday in April 2020. Shogakukan published the 14th volume on March 18. Sousou no Frieren has a cumulative 24 million copies of its volumes in circulation.

VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in February 2021 and released the 13th volume on May 13. The manga has also been licensed in multiple foreign languages, including Spanish, French, Italian, Polish, and Chinese.

It is worrying the same director did NOT come back for S2, we all expected it to happen, everything considered, S1 was that amazing because of him... I doubt S2 will reach the same peak, but this new director having done good shit in the past might still leave it at worth S1 follow up, quality wise, hopefully!

@deg i think thats his plan. I would have wanted him on s2 but if conract is up and not renewed. An Original project is best way to go. His name is now well known.

Extremely worrying to see that the director & assistant director are not the same but at least Keiichiro Saito will be the ''supervisor'' ... whatever that means. We'll see. Hopefully they know that they can't under circumstances ruin the peak fantasy. Very weird to see such sudden changes

so saito is not the director of frieren and bocchi anymore i wonder if his next project will be an original anime
