Entertainment company Bushiroad opened an official website for a television anime adaptation of Atekichi's Heroine? Seijo? Iie, All Works Maid desu (Hokori)! (Heroine? Saint? No, I'm an All-Works Maid (And Proud of It)!) light novel on Monday, revealing the cast, animation studio, and a teaser visual (pictured).

EMT Squared, the animation studio behind Assassins Pride and Yuusha, Yamemasu (I'm Quitting Heroing), is producing the anime.

Voice actresses Yume Miyamoto (Kanojo ga Koushaku-tei ni Itta Riyuu) and Rumi Ookubo (Fate/Apocrypha) are starring as Melody Wave and Luciana Ruttleberg, respectively.

Atekichi began penning the isekai fantasy novel on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in February 2017. TO Books began publishing the series with illustrations by Yukiko in March 2020. The sixth volume went on sale in October 2024, with the seventh volume set for a May 15 release. The light novel has a cumulative 500,000 copies of its volumes in print.

Keiko originally began serializing a manga adaptation on Piccoma in March 2021 before transferring it to Comic Corona in May that year. TO Books plans to also release the sixth volume on May 15.

Seven Seas Entertainment licensed both the light novel and manga in English in June 2024. The second novel volume shipped on March 25, with the third manga volume going on sale on Tuesday.

Synopsis

When she makes it, even cheap tea turns into a luxury brew, and a dilapidated mansion is quickly restored to new! Cleaning, serving, hunting, DIY—leave it all to her and her powerful magic.

Unbeknownst to Melody, this world is actually an otome game, and she is the most powerful and invincible heroine, the saint! Yet, she remains oblivious to this fact. Romance with handsome men? I hope this is an actual comedy and not some barely disguised maid fetish nonsense.

"MC that doesn't know they're the MC" could be very funny in this scenario, but only if it doesn't take a back seat to overly long, boring shots of her serving tea with a placid smile on her face. If we spent half the time on "wow, second class citizen servitude is soooo kewl~" instead of setting up and paying off funny situations, I'm OUT.

@Vaturna No problem, thanks for the answers. It reminds me a bit of Youjo Senki, where Tanya and Visha's relationship is always stably at the status quo despite the occasional playful exchanges that could be called something between playful flirting and gay bravado.

Although it sounds like it could be fun, the synopsis gives me the impression that it's the sort of show that gets repetitive really fast

Exactly that!

And yes, the true intentions of an author aren't always clear 😅 (And maybe they sometimes just don't intent anything at all and leave it for the audience to figure out)
Sorry for beating around the bush with my answers^^

@Vaturna Shipping is a somewhat separate issue, as it does not always correspond to the original intentions of the authors. But it will not be superfluous to remember that, except for obvious situations, we are not always aware of these intentions at all. One can recall how shocked people were when they found out who the author of Bakarina write as the main love interest of Katarina. So, in this overall you're saying that their relationship is easily shipable, but at this point the story is clearly not about that?

@RobertBobert
Probably yes.
"Akuyaku Reijou Tensei Ojisan" is not the best example though, because the dynamic between Melody and Luciana is a lot more equal than between Grace and Anna. If I had to compare it with something it would be closer to "Lycoris Recoil" (which incidentally has a lot of people who ship the main characters)

@Vaturna So, it's more like a shoujo version of nakama power battle shonens that put a strong focus on male leads bonds without sexual or romantic nature? Last year there was a similar otome isekai "Akuyaku Reijou Tensei Ojisan", but there, as far as I understood, everything somehow comes to the father-daughter dynamic, and not romantic relationship. In the case of anime, I think a lot will also depend on how the adaptation is packaged. Because sometimes the way a studio sells an adaptation, even at the OP and ED level, somewhat clarifies how the work is should be perceived.

I have to admit that I'm not very good at judging yuri elements in a story, especially when the relationship between the two characters is not really the focus of the story like it is here.

It's a story about the main character (Melody) being reincarnated as the female lead (the saint with powers to defeat the ancient evil) of an otome game, but the original plot gets messed up because Melody decided to become a maid.
Melody and her lady Luciana are generally the center of the story, but in the novel there are also multiple other important POV characters (both male and female).

Up to the point I've read, it's definitely not a romance story and Melody the main protagonist makes very clear that she's not interested in love at all. Beyond that it's kind of up to everyone's imagination:
Luciana really likes to hug Melody, enjoys dancing with her and is probably a little possessive, but in the novel it's never expressed as anything explicitly romantic.
(If you ask me personally, Luciana's affection for Melody is closer to what you'd see between very close siblings or friends, but I can think of two scenes in particular that will prompt people with vivid imaginations to ship them anyway - depending on how much of the story will be covered by the anime)

@Vaturna Is this another female-focused "I'm taken female lead of an otome game" like "I'm in love with the Villainess" etc? I've seen manga adaptations on manga resources, but usually passed by because I'm not particularly fond of potential yuri titles, where any argument about whether it's yuri or not quickly creates toxic conflict. Although to be honest, I'm confused that even the shipping-loving people from Anilist didn't add any thematic tags to the page of this title.

A little bit, but not really

There are definitely yuri moments (Luciana, the young lady Melody is serving as a maid, is very fond of her and likes to express that), but I would say there is at least just as much focus on the spicy interactions with the former male love interests from the otome game (and our protagonist herself isn't all that interested in romance)

Ohh maids... I have missed them. It's been a while!

Question for those who have read the novel. Is that Yuri or not? :) 10-10

As a true Maid Connoisseur I am very hyped for this one.

I picked up the English light novel when it came out at the end of last year and I'm so happy to hear that it's getting an anime. ❤️❤️

The synopsis probably doesn't do it justice. It's a light-hearted comedy, but it also has quite a surprising amount of story behind it. Definitely one of the more interesting isekai stories I've read.
