An anime adaptation of Miyuki Nakayama's Shota Oni boys love manga was announced in the sixth volume on Friday.

Nakayama (Blend S) originally began the manga on their X (formerly Twitter) and Pixiv accounts in August 2020. Square Enix began serializing the title under its Gangan BLiss label on the Comic CMOA website in September 2021. The maga is also available on Renta!, eBookJapan, BookLive, and Manga UP!

Synopsis
Elementary schooler Tsubaki is head over heels for his childhood friend, Yuu, a gentle and easygoing high schooler.

Though Yuu always treats him with care, he can't help but see Tsubaki as just a kid. But Tsubaki is determined—"I'll grow up fast and make Yuu-nii happy!"

With youthful determination and an earnest heart, Tsubaki's love story is just beginning—a heartfelt tale of innocence, admiration, and the bonds that grow over time.

Shota Oni on MAL

The premise is full of red flags, but I guess that has an audience.

Talk about the perfect time to be a BL and shota enjoyer.
I've skipped through the manga's pages months ago; looks like a pretty tame, moe-centered and generic work (makes sense seeing the author's resume), nothing stood out to me aside from the cute factor, but can't be worse than a certain "Super Lovers" turd, and it seems more wholesome too, since the love interest is actually a nice guy and there ain't no grooming.

@Yubisoft Hi! Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the meme, but keep in mind that we can still understand certain fiction can be damaging/harmful. Perhaps it's not wise to out yourself and your interests? (Though perhaps you don't mind people knowing your inclinations)

@Yubisoft Um....sure lol. Ok 👍

I don't even need to read through the comment section to know it must be shitstorm. That many comments for a series I know a lot of people aren't aware of doesn't spell anything good and this series will get more flack than "Babanbabanban Vampire" will, but here I am yet again, surprised that another BL series that it wouldn't ever occur to me would get an anime adaptation is actually getting one! At this point, I need to start wishing really hard that "Blue Flag" and "Boy Meets Maria" will also get an anime because the world seems to be opening up to making it happen.

@thebrentinator24 You don't need to to be in the law enforcement to help these people, you don't need to be a billionaire to care/help about our planet etc. In reality you people don't seem to care about pedophilia or pedophilia real life victims where it actually matters. You(and all people who indirectly call people pedos who like this type of content and the creators of this content) just want to look good on the internet by downgrading drawings and pixels. And I will stop here. Have a nice day!

@chococats How long have you been watching anime? For decades, Boku no Pico has been known for guys making jokes about it while girls enjoy it without irony. Which is to be expected and it would be weird to deny it.

*inhales and exhales smoke from imaginary cigarette* phew, haven't felt this old in a hot minute visiting the comment section under a bl (adjacent) series. You folks never dissapoint <3

The story is just about a kid crushing on an older boy, but so many people will overlook that because it’s BL. I’m hoping that if they do end up together, it’s after a big time jump. Probably wouldn’t be adapted though.

It’s too bad though that there are beautiful, well-written BL manga that haven’t become anime yet. Ones that would even attract non-BL fans.

Anyway, it’s interesting that people on here get so butt-hurt about a series like this while anime with incest and men going after girls are so popular. What’s with the double standards?

Good to see tourists already got to whining about this, it's like clockwork.

@Yubisoft Because I don't work for law enforcement and I'm not about to become some CP-hunting Batman. Crazy how being finding concerning age gaps weird and rightfully being weirded out by them is considered "white knighting" these days. Anyways, I even acknowledge that I don't know anything about this series since BL isn't my thing, and that if it's true that this series is more mild than it lets on and there's truly nothing to actually worry about, according to people in here who DO know something about this series, then cool, so be it and we can all move on.

Why do I waste my time scrolling through these comments... People on this site never change, I swear

Anyways, have fun arguing

Nah that synopsis makes this seem, at the very least, like a pedophilia-adjacent series, and just because they're fictional or "just drawings" doesn't excuse that or make it any less weird.

Why don't you people including @Lizymarie use that white knight energy to hunt the irl CP with real victims and those who make such content instead of virtue signalling about drawings on the internet ? Does your ''concern'' end here in mal?

@Old_School_Akira Yea I'm aware. I think that's weird too.

You’re favourite series gurren lagann has a pedo-adjacent character with red hair.

Mar 24, 3:51 PM by Old_School_Akira

@Yubisoft lol. I wouldn’t.
I see it all as fiction

Mar 24, 3:49 PM by Old_School_Akira

@RobertBobert no fujoshi has a high opinion of boku no pico...

Mar 24, 3:09 PM by chococats

"They're fictional characters," "Learn to distinguish fiction from reality," Nah that synopsis makes this seem, at the very least, like a pedophilia-adjacent series, and just because they're fictional or "just drawings" doesn't excuse that or make it any less weird. 🤷🤷🤷 HOWEVER, with that being said, I'll go ahead and take the word of those who are more knowledgable about this series when they say that it's more mild than the synopsis makes it out to be, but it wouldn't be the least bit surprising if this encounters a controversial reception.

@kta_99 I can't say about Shoujo Ramune, but Boku no Pico has long been a cult meme in the BL community. To the point that I saw a joke back in the 00s that fujoshi is very easy to spot by their unironic high opinion of this anime.

Mar 24, 11:57 AM by RobertBobert

omg, I have no idea of Blend S's author being a shotacon. That's very unexpected lol.

Anyways, I'm so happy

I'm so excited for this one!!! Let's goooo
