'Anne Shirley' Announces Main Cast, Staff

The official website for the Anne Shirley television anime series revealed the main cast and staff on Thursday. The anime is scheduled to broadcast for 24 episodes starting in April 2025 on E-NHK.

Anne Shirley: Honoka Inoue (RPG Fudousan)
Marilla Cuthbert: Aya Nakamura (Jujutsu Kaisen)
Matthew Cuthbert: Yasunori Matsumoto (SK∞)
Gilbert Blythe: Naoya Miyase (Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha)
Diana Barry: Yume Miyamoto (SSSS.Gridman)

Hiroshi Kawamata (Otona Joshi no Anime Time) is directing the anime at The Answer Studio. Kenichi Tsuchiya (Kotonoha no Niwa) is designing the characters.

The anime adapts Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables novel which was first published by L.C. Page & Co. in 1908. Over the years, it was released in 36 languages and sold more than 50 million copies.

A 50-episode television anime by Nippon Animation aired in 1979, followed by a 39-episode prequel in 2009. A recap movie compiling the first six episodes of the original anime premiered in July 2010 at the Ghibli Museum.

@Elior21 I don’t quite understand why you are asking me about this. But judging by their portfolio, they fit the archetypes quite well. Although I don’t remember the old anime well enough to give any “expert” assessments.

Anne and Gilbert are so young. They going to promote them through such a big loud project? From what I've noticed, a lot of new VAs this year are landing multiple lead roles this year.

Fan boyin' so hard right now. And its in April! I consider the '79 release to be in my top 10 anime, thrilled to see it have a modern production on it.
