'Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! 3' OVA in Production

The Kono Subarashii Radio ni Shukufuku wo! Public Record Special announced an original video anime for the third anime season on Sunday.

The first two anime seasons produced by Studio Deen aired in Winter 2016 and 2017, each running for ten episodes. The ninth and 12th light novel volumes each bundled an original video anime episode in June 2016 and July 2017.

The Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!: Kurenai Densetsu (Konosuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! - Legend of Crimson) anime movie by J.C.Staff premiered in Japan in August 2019, adapting the fifth volume.

The third and latest season, produced by animation studio Drive, aired in 11 episodes in Spring 2024. Crunchyroll simulcast the anime with multiple subtitles and dubs.

The anime series, also known by its short title Konosuba, adapts Natsume Akatsuki's comedy fantasy light novel, which he originally penned on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website from December 2012 to October 2013. Kadokawa began printing the title under its Sneaker Bunko label that month, featuring illustrations by Kurone Mishima (Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records). The light novel ended with the 17th volume in May 2020. Konosuba has a cumulative 10 million copies of its volumes in circulation.

Masahito Watari began drawing a manga adaptation in Monthly Dragon Age in September 2014. Kadokawa published the 19th volume on June 7.

Synopsis
Kazuma Satou, former NEET and current reincarnated adventurer, finally returns home after the incident at the Crimson Demon village. He is joined by his ever-reliable companions: self-absorbed goddess Aqua, one-trick pony arch-wizard Megumin, and masochistic crusader Lalatina Ford "Darkness" Dustiness. Following their recent exploits, the party is one step closer to vanquishing the Demon King and his armies—a terrifying task that Kazuma is eager to ignore for as long as possible. Things, however, are not going as smoothly as the group would like; they are constantly racking up debt, getting sidetracked during missions, and falling into traps due to their recklessness and eccentricities.

As the party struggles with their perennial issues, they receive an invitation from a princess interested in hearing tales of the group's "heroic" deeds. Darkness' pleas to refuse the invitation only fire the others up to accept it, marking the start of yet another uncanny adventure with unforeseen consequences. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

@MegamiRem I see, thanks for the answer! My friends are not as active on Steam as I would like, so I'm looking for more people who actively use it. But okay, I won’t provoke an offtopic futher :D

Back on topic, I'm wondering if the OVA will be original or adapt something.

@RobertBobert Not sure but they do have multiple editions for popular mangas even these days. Many animes get early limited/exclusive screening too. As for games, the ones I play atleast didn't have any limited time pre order bonus or such.

@MegamiRem Do you think that the general trend towards abandoning physical media has already reached anime, and so strongly?

@animegamer245 Yeah. For example, Tomozaki's OVAs were released as volume bonuses.

Mhm, yeep! For anime it's like 3-4 ep limit for me, but never had a chapters limit for manga. I'll probably do 10 as that does sound reasonable.

@Yuno Harsh but it's the truth .. at least most of the times for me. When I read manga most of the time I give it a 10 chapters limit to make me interested while having zero expectations (if I don't know the mangaka who wrote it ) and in animation there are some cases where I blindly trust studios like Passione and Bibury Animation Studios because they have proved more than enough times that they did their best and that if the adaptation is crap 99% due to the source material

@RobertBobert OVAs were exclusively bundled with bd/dvd to give people another reason to purchase those. These days with streaming/broadcast generating more money, think they stopped doing that or something. Though there's still animes that have specials/ova bundled with the bd/dvd sets.

I thought there might not be an OVA since Season 3 had 11 episodes and the previous OVAs were basically the 11th episode of a 10 episode season. So glad that is not the case. Always down for more KonoSuba. Hope they announce Season 4 soon.

@Softhenic03 I miss this tradition. It feels like in the last 5-10 years only Oregairu and Konosuba have followed this. However, now OVAs generally come out much less often than before.
