'Great Pretender' Sequel Announced for 2024

The official website of the Great Pretender original television anime announced a sequel titled Great Pretender Razbliuto on Friday, revealing the production staff, a teaser promo, and key visual (pictured). The anime is scheduled to premiere in 2024, exclusively on DMM TV, and Crunchyroll will stream the anime worldwide.

An advance screening event for the first 20 minutes of the anime will be held at Anime NYC on November 18.

Great Pretender is an original anime produced by Wit Studio, which began airing in Summer 2020. Netlifx simulcast the anime worldwide.

Synopsis
A series of unfortunate events has led Makoto "Edamame" Edamura to adopt the life of crime—pickpocketing and scamming others for a living. However, after swindling a seemingly clueless tourist, Makoto discovers that he was the one tricked and, to make matters worse, that the police are now after him.

While making his escape, he runs into the tourist once again, who turns out to be a fellow con man named Laurent Thierry, and ends up following him to Los Angeles. In an attempt to defend his self-proclaimed title of "Japan's Greatest Swindler," Makoto challenges his rival to determine the better scammer. Accepting the competition, Laurent drops them off outside a huge mansion and claims that their target will be the biggest mafia boss on the West Coast.

Jumping from city to city, Great Pretender follows the endeavors of Makoto alongside the cunning Laurent and his colorful associates in the world of international high-stakes fraud. Soon, Makoto realizes that he got more than what he bargained for as his self-declared skills are continually put to the test. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

This is such a pleasant surprise! Really enjoyed the first series, the ending felt like there could have been some more if I remember correctly but really didn't expect them to actually continue so I'm really excited about this!

Never expected "Great Pretender" to get a sequel tbh. The show was great and i had no real clue if it would ever really get another season but thankfully that'll happen next year.

I still has not watched the last arc as I had a bunch of issues with the main character and where the story was going. But I may finish it sometime.

to be honest, i would have much preferred wit to focus on something else, as i didn't like great pretender that much, the characters had nice designs and the visuals were very cool, but i thought the cast wasn't that likable and that the arcs got progressively worse as that series went on.

that said, it's impressive that it got a continuation and i'm happy for the fans.

I don't like it when they make sequels of animes with perfectly fine conclusion so hopefully this'll be good. Maybe we'll get to see Abby and Makoto married at the end this time.
