The Dragon Ball special panel at the New York Comic Con announced a new anime titled Dragon Ball Daima on Thursday, slated for a Fall 2024 debut. Toei Animation also posted a teaser trailer.

Original creator Akira Toriyama is credited for the original work, story, and character design. Commemorating the original manga's 40th anniversary, Dragon Ball Daima is the first new anime series in six years since Dragon Ball Super ended in 2018.

Following the announcement, a comment from Toriyama appeared on screen:

"'Daima' is a made-up term... in English it would be something like 'Evil.' Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things, they'll head off to a new world! It's a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious new world. Since Goku has to make up for his petite size, he uses his Nyoibo (Power Pole) to fight, something not seen in a long time.

I came up with the story and settings, as well as a lot of the designs. I'm actually putting a lot more into this than usual. Things will unfold that close in on the mysteries of the Dragon Ball world. Hope you all enjoy these different-from-usual battles that are cute and powerful!"

Dragon Ball Super aired in 131 episodes from Summer 2015 to Spring 2018. The Dragon Ball Super: Broly, premiered in Japan in December 2018. The Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero sequel movie opened in theaters in June 2022, grossing over 2.51 billion yen (approximately US$92.1 million) worldwide.

Toriyama and Toyotarou began serializing the Dragon Ball Super manga in V-Jump magazine in June 2015. Shueisha shipped the 21st volume on August 4. VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in North America and published the 19th volume on September 5.

Cant wait for more hair color change "transformations". /s

Also, cant blame Toriyama 4 (apparently) droppping Super. Toyotaro/Toyble manga reads like a fanfic (even more than Super 80% of it's time).

Come, GT 2.0: Eletric Boogaloo but Cannon.

Why can we just let it die.
Dragon Ball is done.

They're still not getting serious.

So it’s just muppet babies? Put Dragon ball out of its misery already.

I know we want more Super, but this looks pretty fun, and the animation is very promising. I'm in.

@MegamiRem It's canon & supposedly set between when Buu is defeated and when Beerus arrived - so around the same time as the Tarble special.

Huh? What's this about? Spin off?

Still no entry in the anime database on MAL? 😔

A new anime from the Dragon Ball franchise again?!

A sequel or spinoff that nobody asked for.
Atleast the trailer animation and art was better than DBS abomination.

I was hoping we'd get super back, but something's better than nothing. The trailer looks pretty good too.

It looks pretty cool, we haven't seen young Goku in ages and original DB with him and Bulma on the adventures is peak. So really looking forward to this.

So this is essentially a new spun on GT but without the second half of the anime which had the cool character designs, SSJ4 and great villains. Ehh.... Also Trunks and Goten have been turned back into babies. We will never see an adult Goten canonically lol.

Dragon Ball GT 2.0?

If not for DBSuper continuing, I would have far preferred a focus on the supporting characters.

Even if the Z gang going on some kind of new adventure in child form sounds decent, I'm disappointed.
It's weird, and I don't care too much about it.

DB is best when it's more serious and less comedic.
DBS could have been far better if it was a little darker, or rather serious and less meaningless to no comic relief.

can't wait for this one looks amazing and for the people who don't like this new idea go and keep watching and reading that mess of a series called Dragon Ball Super

Embarrassing. lol

Has the chibi spin-off trend gone that far?

It's nice to see Goku with the nyaibou again... I think the concept is lame and I don't see how it will enrichen the story of DB, but I really did like original Dragon Ball. The concept is also of Toriyama sensei this time so I'm more enthusiastic for it at least. The last two movies also redeemed my enthusiasm and expectations for DB. The build-up in the trailer really made me expect something more than this concept which is why I think it's so lame... but maybe it's to celebrate the anniversary and it's not that serious. Also - seeing Goku as a kid in DBS' style of depicting kids is weird considering DBC/Z.

I think this just serves as further proof that the DB franchise has run out of fresh ideas long, long ago...

DB Evolution truly was such a blight upon the world that, to this day, we're still seeing the consequences of it having forced Toriyama out of retirement.
