'Kimitachi wa Dou Ikiru ka' Anime Movie Announces Cast, Staff, Theme Song

The screenings of Hayao Miyazaki's Kimitachi wa Dou Ikiru ka (The Boy and the Heron) anime movie revealed the cast members and theme song on Friday. The movie opened in Japanese theaters on July 14. American film distributor GKIDS licensed the movie in North America and will release it in theaters in 2023.

J-pop singer Kenshi Yonezu (Chainsaw Man, Uchiage Hanabi, Shita kara Miru ka? Yoko kara Miru ka?) is performing the movie's theme song "Chikyuugi."

Miyazaki is credited for the original work, direction, script, as well as storyboard at Studio Ghibli.

The anime movie is inspired by Genzaburou Yoshino's Kimitachi wa Dou Ikiru ka (How Do You Live?) slice of life drama novel published in 1937. Shouichi Haga drew a manga adaptation, which was published by Magazine House in August 2017.

Idk why MyAnimelist has the manga connected to the movie, but the movie is unrelated to it. The title is taken from the manga (or rather the novel the manga adapts), but that's about it from what I've heard. It's an original movie.

I heard that there was a reasoning for this movie barely having any marketing or news around it... why?

Either way I'll keep an eye out for international release.
