Light Novel 'Tokidoki Bosotto Russia-go de Dereru Tonari no Alya-san' Receives TV Anime
Kouhei Amasaki (High Score Girl) and Sumire Uesaka (Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san) are starring as Masachika Kuze and Alisa Mikhailovna Kujou, respectively.
Synopsis
Smart, refined, and strikingly gorgeous, half-Russian half-Japanese Alisa Mikhailovna Kujou is considered the idol of her school. With her long silver hair, mesmerizing blue eyes, and exceptionally fair skin, she has captured the hearts of countless male students while being highly admired by all others. Even so, due to her seemingly unapproachable persona, everyone remains wary around the near-flawless girl.
One of the few exceptions is Alisa's benchmate Masachika Kuze, a relatively average boy who spends his days watching anime and playing gacha games. Despite his nonchalant demeanor, Masachika is the sole student to receive Alisa's attention. Unable to be fully honest, Alisa is frequently harsh on Masachika and only expresses her affection in Russian. Unbeknownst to her, however, Masachika actually understands the language yet simply pretends otherwise for his own amusement.
As the odd pair continues to exchange witty and playful remarks, their relationship gradually grows more romantic and delightful—and Alisa might finally learn to freely convey her true feelings. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Sun originally began writing the romantic comedy novel as two short stories on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in May 2020. The fifth volume was released in December 2022, and the sixth volume is scheduled for an April 1 release.
Saho Tanamachi began drawing a manga adaptation in Magazine pocket in October 2022. Kodansha shipped the first volume on March 9.
Yen Press licensed the light novel in English in April 2022. The second volume went on sale on February 21, and the third volume is scheduled to be released on May 21.
Tokidoki Bosotto Russia-go de Dereru Tonari no Alya-san placed ninth and fifth in the light novels category in the 2022 and 2023 editions of the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! Rankings. The light novel also placed fifth in the light novel sales by series category in Japan's Yearly Manga and Light Novel Rankings for 2022.

Oof, talk about bad timing, nothing against anyone involved in this, but i would really advice putting it on hold until Russia withdraws from Ukraine...
I'd tell you they hold off pretty well. If the Russia-Ukraine didn't happen then this would have literally been announced for anime adaptation last year. KADOKAWA realized that if they hold off too much, they'd do backwards and kill the popularity of this near record-breaking series and actually just lose their money.

Dat russian tho
Regardless, I remember seeing this is some top sales or award showcase thingy recently so I'm not too surprised to see that this got an anime so quickly, looking forward to it
Sneaker Bunko has already announced VAs in Sept 2021 to be exact.
The next big romcom LN to have an announcement is most likely Chitose Is In The Ramune Bottle. Well, a lot of LN readers I know are complaining about its Gary-Stu protagonist. >_>
But I've also heard of that series too...I did some reading on it and I feel like a lot of the hate on that protagonist is unwarranted because they can't relate to or understand someone like him lol

Queen.
It's an achievement in timing, as others have pointed out, but since production by my estimate would have likely started sometime in mid-to-late 2021, I sympathise with the studio. Working on a piece in both a weary genre and at the most inopportune time must have cast a gloom over the staff.

the VA was a legit russian nerd.
USSR was good, of course there were many minuses, but you were sure in future, which in the modern Russia you are not sure at all.

This LN is in my plan-to-read list. Will pick it up once Yen Press (or Delay Press) translates more volumes, probably next year? XD
EDIT: Looks like Chitose Is In The Ramune Bottle is the only big romcom LN that has not officially announced anime adaptation. Well, GAGAGA Bunko have already hired VAs to promote the LN~

Uesaka is an avid fan of Russia and its history, culture, military, literature and art. This traces back to the time when she was a tenth grade student, in her first year of high school, and heard by chance for the first time the Soviet Union national anthem. Henceforth she began to develop an interest in Russia and devoted herself to studying about Russian society and history on her own. She couldn't picture herself studying anything other than Russian language at university. In April 2010, she entered the Faculty of Foreign Studies at the well known Sophia University after a recommendation from Kamakura Women's University Junior & Senior High School where she graduated. There she was majoring in Russian Studies. Her graduation thesis was a study of the early history of the Red Army. On July 10, 2012 she received Sophia University's Studies Prize For Excellent Work. Starting April, 2012 she received her own radio show, the Uesaka Sumire's Armored Guards Infantry Regiment Broadcast on Nico Nico Live. Because of her familiarity with Russia and interest in its military, she was casted as the Russian girl Nonna on TV anime series Girls und Panzer in October 2012. She also sung two Russian insert songs during the show, "Cossack no Komoriuta" and "Katyusha," both covers of well known folk songs. Her performance as voice actress and singer received a lot of attention in Japan and overseas thereafter.
