Japanese Media company, GDH, has announced that Youtube, Crunchyroll, and BOST online video services will be streaming new titles from animation studio Gonzo worldwide on the same day as they are released in Japan. The video streams will be in Japanese with English subtitles and will start with The Tower of Druaga: the Aegis of Uruk and Blassreiter anime series. All of these will be available via streaming for free, but GDH also mentioned "fee-based download of high-resolution movie files" in its press release.

GDH added that its "decision to provide its content globally in parallel with Japanese broadcast is an effort to offer equal accessibility and new viewing opportunities to fans around the world, while at the same time showcasing a legal online alternative to illegal file-sharing and downloading."

I think this is fantastic. I don't understand why so many people only posted things like "I hate streaming" or "gonzo sucks", etc. It's the concept that is important here. I think this could turn out to be a very good thing, providing many things, but still. One company is giving it a shot! If it works, others will follow suit. I have no interest in the shows really, either, but I figure I'll watch them just to give this a shot :)

i dont know what it is like in your countrys, but downloading something which has been broadcasted and recorded on tv is not illegal where i live. (dont get me wrong, sharing them on p2p is)
so i didnt have those problems to begin with. this wont keep me away from watching a HQ version of that anime which was recorded from TV provided by a nice fan.
But dont misunderstand me, i do not watch dvd-rips, im only fine with things which were broadcasted on public television.

I'm so happy! <3 finally they made the right decision!! This is the future of anime! ^^

Now... if only they had picked shows with romance... that would've made my day.

Whoa... Like most everyone else has already said, if they really manage to make this work and with reasonable quality as well, it would be just perfect!

I really don't know why is everybody making a big deal out of streaming. I don't like streaming either, that's why I'm just going to download them first and then watch normally... =o

That said, I also hope the video quality won't completely suck like it usually does in streams so as to force people to buy the hi-res version, otherwise I'll skip this thing too.

Don't really matter I hate streams.

Finally, gonzo has made me smile =) Just like everyone said, I just hope the subs are good quality, even if they don't have fancy fonts or typesetting. I just hope that the other companies jump on the bandwagon. I don't care about having to watch a lower quality version or have to sit through commercials as long as I get to see the series.

Wow. Gonzo is going all out lately! :D im kinda proud of them.
I hope the subbs wont suck haha!

There are 2 problems
1. It's streaming video which I dislike
2. It's Failzo which mostly fail

2. It's a pair of series I have zero interest in.

Even if it was everything that Failzo ever aired it will still take time to find something good in all of that

Hrm...reading Eclipse's FAQ...

*When, if ever, will you guys stop subbing?
When subtitled anime airs at the same time as in Japan, worldwide. Or possibly when we find the love of beautiful women. I personally prefer Belldandy, but… well.

Oh noes! It's come true! :P

So this was what Gonzo and GDH were up to when they contacted Crunchyroll and started trading ideas. Very interesting. Let's see how this will turn out. There's such issues as sub quality and the quality of the anime they are going to be releasing (Gonzo: now's a good time to make a Gankutusou-quality anime, and NOT a Dragonaut-quality anime), but we'll just have to wait and see.
