The official website of Studio Ghibli announced on Tuesday that Hayao Miyazaki's Kimitachi wa Dou Ikiru ka (How Do You Live?) anime movie will open in Japanese theaters on July 14, 2023, revealing a visual (pictured).

Miyazaki (Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi, Howl no Ugoku Shiro) is handling the direction and screenplay. Studio Ghibli is producing the anime movie.

The anime movie is inspired by Genzaburou Yoshino's Kimitachi wa Dou Ikiru ka (How Do You Live?) drama slice of life novel published in 1937. Shouichi Haga drew a manga adaptation, which was published by Magazine House in August 2017.

Miyazaki, who originally announced his retirement from feature-length movies in September 2013, began work on the film in July 2016.

Hayao Miyazaki is back let's go! But seriously Ghibli should find a good director and amazing writer at this point, all good movies is from Hayao and others are not so good films like the one his son Goro did, afterall Hayao is goddamn 80+yrs old.
Princess Kaguya was pretty awesome and that wasn't by him as far as I am aware.

Maybe I'll be there in the summer to see it. The original wasn't that much to my liking, but I'm surprised to hear it's going to be a fantasy.

is this really the last? what if it's so bad that miyazaki will blame his fans again? he should just sit on his porch and smoke instead of wasting time making anime no one watches

He actually blamed the fans? Dang I guess I'm just going to like the art but not the artist

He has never once blamed the fans, people might not agree with his opinions him but that's not really his problem.

We finally have the release date. This is great news indeed.

I thought this project got shelved for sure since I hadn't heard even a hearsay about anything related to it for years since its announcement considering Miyazaki's age and Studio Ghibli's inactivity (apart from releasing their abysmal first 3D film) for the most part in the past few years.

Miyazaki is putting a lot of effort into this movie. It is supposed to be his gift to his son and the world before he dies. This movie is being animated slowly. It seems it movie will have a more difficult animation style or something. I think this movie will be absolutely insane, and I am looking forward to seeing it.
