The official website for Shenmue the Animation revealed three additional cast members on Thursday. The television anime adapting Sega's video game franchise premieres on February 6 on Crunchyroll and Adult Swim, and will air later this year in Japan.

Shenhua: Haruka Terui (Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru)

Nozomi Harasaki: Haruka Fushimi (Hitorigurashi no Shougakusei)

Guizhang Chen: Ryuuichi Kijima (God Eater)

The trio joins the previously cast Masaya Matsukaze (Hunter x Hunter (2011)) and Takahiro Sakurai (Shuumatsu no Walküre), who are starring as Ryou Hazuki and Lan Di, respectively. Thursday's announcement also revealed that rock band NARUDORA's song "Sympathy" will be used as the series' ending theme.

Crunchyroll and Adult Swim announced the 13-episode adaptation during the Virtual Crunchyroll Expo in September 2020. It is being directed by Chikara Sakurai (One Punch Man 2nd Season) at Telecom Animation Film. Kento Shimoyama (Bleach) is in charge of series composition, Kensuke Ishikawa (Beelzebub, Tsukiuta. The Animation chief animation director) is adapting Udaka's original character designs, and Kana Shibue (Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu) is composing the music.

Sega released the first Shenmue game in Japan in December 1999 on its Dreamcast console, with North American and European releases following in 2000. The second game was released in 2001 in Japan and Europe on the same console, followed by a reissue on Xbox in the US in 2002 and Europe in 2003.

A compilation of the first two games was released in 2018 on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Sega published the franchise's third game, Shenmue III, worldwide in November 2019 on Playstation 4 and PC following a successful crowdfunding campaign.

As a huge fan of the game, and a player who loved Nozomi. I'm so disappointed in what they did to her for this anime. Nothing like her in-game character at all which is a major shame. Not even her hair color is the same nor her signature outfit. Still looking forward to watching the series since the trailers were really good, and it based on a game I love.
