Personally, I'm glad Mahouka got another entry. While the anime (or at least the first season - haven't seen the second yet) had its problems mainly stemming from some production decisions and the effect they had on the characterization of some of the characters - I quite enjoy the world of Mahouka. Though I mainly prefer the novels.

The fascination for me is definitely the world building. I always like it when an author goes the extra mile and does more than some surface-level set up. It's fascinating to see them coming up with future technology and stuff and then thinking about how it would impact peoples lives, politics, etc. And weaving their stories into the whole thing.
