Synopsis
After coming to Kyoto in search of her father, Chizuru Yukimura has been working with the Shinsengumi after being saved by a bloodthirsty monster. Then, in June of the first year of the Keio Period, the Shinsengumi, who have moved to the Nishi Honganji Temple and continue their patrols of Kyoto, receive reports of the appearance of bandits disguised as Shinsengumi. In addition, with the Shogun's arrival in Kyoto, the task of protecting him falls on the Shinsengumi so Hijikata and the others rush to solve the problem.
While this is going on, several Furies escape from the Shinsengumi camp with the help of a figure who resembles Chizuru. In addition, Chizuru, who had gone to the city with Sakai, the Shinsengumi's treasurer, gets caught up in the commotion and goes missing. Also, the Satsuma clan receives information about a plot to assassinate the shogun by the Tosa clan's ronin, and Kazama and the others head for the capital.
Are the various incidents surrounding the Shinsengumi really just coincidences? As everything erupts into chaos and the time until the Shogun's arrival in Kyoto approaches, Hijikata and the Shinsengumi must make a decision...
The main cast of the TV adaptation will be reprising their roles in the project along with the introduction of a new character, Sakai Hyogo, voiced by Shouta Aoi (Tsukiuta. The Animation, Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta...). The staff of the original 2010 television series adaptation are also returning at Studio Deen, helmed by director Osamu Yamasaki.
The opening theme, titled "Setsuna no Kodou," will be performed by Aika Yoshioka and the ending theme, titled "Kenran - I'll never forget you –," will be performed by Maon Kurosaki.
Based on the Playstation 2 game published in 2008, the TV adaptation aired in Spring 2010 for 12 episodes followed by a 10-episode sequel anime series in Fall that year. A six-episode side story OVA ran from August 2011 to June 2012 followed by a TV adaptation of the prequel game in Summer 2012. Two compilation films of the original television series premiered in August 2013 and March 2014.
