Gundam Franchise Announces 'Suisei no Majo' TV Anime, 'Cucuruz Doan no Shima' Anime Film for 2022
The Dai 2-kai Gundam Conference livestream event revealed two new anime and a compilation series in the Gundam franchise this Wednesday.
Kidou Senshi Gundam: Suisei no Majo (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury), the first new Gundam television anime in seven years, will begin airing in 2022. This marks the first television anime in the franchise since Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, which aired in two 25-episode seasons in Fall 2015 and Fall 2016.
Animation director and character designer Yoshikazu Yasuhiko (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin) is helming the Kidou Senshi Gundam: Cucuruz Doan no Shima (Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island) anime film. Based on the 15th episode of the original Mobile Suit Gundam series, the film is set to premiere in theatres in 2022.
A nine-part compilation television special of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans will air in Spring 2022. The compilation will include a preview of the Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Urðr Hunt spin-off anime, coinciding with the release of the Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans G smartphone game.
The Urðr Hunt spin-off anime was originally announced in 2019. Director Tatsuyuki Nagai (Sora no Aosa wo Shiru Hito yo) is returning to helm the spin-off, alongside character designer Michinori Chiba (SK∞). Hajime Kamoshida (Just Because!) is handling series composition, and Masaru Yokoyama (Horimiya) is composing the music.

Has it already been 7 years since the premiere of Gundam TV last? Whoa. Also, the title implies that the new MC might be a girl. How big are the chances of this?
They just announced. It's Gundam Aerial. Plus, there are only 2 Gundam series that I remember that has it's main Gundam named G-something. G-Reco and god forbid, G-Savior.

Although I really hope they do something other than the classic "Small group of special fighters fight against an evil government/corporation". They've done it to death and there's nothing more that Gundam can try to say about it that it hasn't already said.

you mean gundam? You can always stick to a couple of AU if you care.
for UC gundam, it's 0079 -> Zeta -> ZZ -> CCA
All that sounds like too much and I know that there’s like 30 or more other Gundams out there which I can’t even think about watching
The 1979 series has a trilogy of recap movies that was well received. There's no need to watch any sequels, as most of them follow different characters.
(The team that created Anohana)
While technically true, Iron-Blooded Orphans isn't anything like Anohana.

I'm a huge fan of GBF and GBFT but after those two they've been milking these Gunpla anime for too damn long and as a diehard Gundam fan, lord knows I've been starving for new AU timeline series that aren't just set in the UC timeline
But be that as it may, I will definitely be checking out the new movie and even though I wasn't a fan of how things ended in IBO, I'm still pretty excited to see what they do for the sequel
But in all Gundam fans are eating pretty good....Apart from the Seed continuation, the only thing I was hoping to hear more about from was the state of the Gundam 00 sequel thing (Which I'm also starving for lol)

Lots of the other Gundam series, like this Witch of Mercury one, you can just pick up at random if you want because they have nothing to do with the original timeline or any other series. There's no reason you have to get into UC first really..
But if you do it's not as much as people make it out to be. You can really just watch the 0079 film trilogy and Zeta. The third film and Zeta are so good that it's worth it even if you ditch UC Gundam there imo. The third film is also an improvement on the last arc of the original series. Char's Counter Attack is another film that has basically nothing to do with ZZ despite being its "sequel", so you don't really have to watch ZZ unless you end up becoming a huge Tomino fan. You can also watch Hathaway's Flash after CCA with or without watching Unicorn or NT, because it only really references CCA, and you're basically up to date at that point. Just a few films and Zeta.

Well, that's a badass non UC sounding title.
Weird concept for a film tbqh but I trust YAS, he has always delivered as a director.
So, that Old Norse thing wasn't vaporware after all. I'm not the biggest fan of IBO but I don't hate it either. Might be cool.
I wish I could say more but there's not much info unfortunately.
