Just saw Miyavi's insta post he will be debuting as a voice actor and will voice that huge head in the cover.

I wanted to pass this one because of the CG but seeing Miyavi I might check it out.

Of course it's an entirely new studio. Of course it's by mostly C-list staff. Of course it's based off of goddamn Bright, of all things.

It's like they're not even trying with this one. Would not be surprised if it were just a ploy to get everything else they make to look better in comparison.

What's wrong with Bright ? I know the movie wasn't well received but the urban fantasy concept is actually kinda cool.

The concept is cool, but Bright was incredibly lazy in how it tried to do it. It's like they took a mundane buddy cop movie then switched out half the cast with fantasy races, without ever really appearing to put thought into how the world is supposed to function, which is one of the main draws of the subgenre. All recent history is seemingly identical, with just the vague mention of a preceding classic-fantasy world. Then of course you've got the fact that it was a rather obvious attempt at racial allegory, which just put the whole movie on eggshells - The stereotypes and actions of the Orcs no longer reflect their fictional species, but entire communities of real people. And then the movie was just rather poor as a piece of media, jarring dialogue, weak directing, the lot.

I'd sum it up as a movie that just expects you to do most of the legwork in your own head. Which is a shame, because as you said, the concept is rather cool, really, it just needs to have been done with genuine creativity.

Netflix simply doesnt want to understand anime and anime consumers.

It's like they are actively working to redefine anime to adhere to their (western) standards.

Also, while we're talking about this, why is it that Netflix continue to insist on producing these 3D CGI anime ?

Or more importantly, who are the sick freaks that watch these shows and somehow convince Netflix that these shows are worth making ?

You know as a CGI defender this looks really fudging bad. Not going to lie. I was trying to get into it but it manages to look really flat while being all CGI. The art direction is okay sometimes but man what a disappointment. Really bad frame rate too.
