Global streaming platform Netflix announced a new original anime series titled Exception during the fourth day of the Netflix Geeked event on Thursday. The event also announced the main staff and a teaser visual (pictured).

Synopsis
In the distant future, human beings have been forced to leave earth and migrate to another galaxy. An advanced team of spacecraft arrives at a planet that is to be terraformed. Each member of the team is output by a biological 3D printer. (Source: Netflix)

Yuuzou Satou (Gatchaman Crowds assistant director) is directing the space horror anime at Tatsunoko Production (Bakken Record) and 5 Inc. Novelist and live-action director Otsuichi (Adachi Hirotaka) (Goth, Kizu) is penning the original story. Yoshitaka Amano (Vampire Hunter D, Gibiate) is designing the characters.

Netflix announced last February that the company was partnering with six Japanese creators to develop new anime originals, including Otsuichi.

Today it's just an ***intangible*** role of selecting the studio talent and having their name all over the product, tomorrow who knows... and with it a slow decline of Japanese media not unlike we see elsewhere.

replying to a 1post account from 2 years ago lmao

but jesus christ @ posts like this from literal children who don't remember that peak anime was and is all westernized from the getgo. if anything, anime needs to un-otaku itself and stop flooding the airwaves with waifu trash for a tiny, minuscule subculture of japanese NEETs

You guys do realize Netflix just provides the funding and the production is made by the Japanese studio, right?

If the rest of the "anime" "original" like Netflix has recently introduced (Eden and Yasuko), it will fall into the trash.

The synopsis sound kind of shitty to be honest . But I like space horror so will give it a chance

@DatRandomDude You should have mention Yoshitaka Amano's Final Fantasy-related fame not Gibiate.

Why does the premise sound like someone watched Episode 4 of Red Dwarf XI and tried to wring it into anime form?

Staff isn't much though, probably a pass unless more reassuring info comes to light.

Cool cover art, shit synopsis. It tells me nothing about what to expect.

If this is remotely like the rest of the “anime” “originals” Netflix has put out recently (Eden and Yasuke), it’s going to be trash

so like Expelled From Paradise that their minds are digital and are in The Matrix while they just 3D print a biological body on demand? sounds interesting
