'Tokyo Babylon 2021' Suspends Production, Plans Restart
The decision was reached alongside CLAMP following an internal investigation triggered by plagiarism accusations. The investigation uncovered potential plagiarism beyond the November costume design incident, and the two sides agreed to restart the project from the ground up.
Tokyo Babylon 2021 was initially slated for an April 2021 release. The current official website and Twitter will close on April 30, and new production staff will be announced at a later date.
The anime will adapt CLAMP's fantasy shoujo manga Tokyo Babylon. CLAMP serialized the manga in the South and Monthly Wings magazines between 1990 and 1993. A sequel manga titled X ran in Monthly Asuka from March 1992 to March 2003.
Madhouse adapted Tokyo Babylon into an original video anime, releasing an episode in October 1992 and March 1994, and produced an anime film for X in 1996. A 24-episode television anime re-adapting the sequel manga aired in Fall 2001.

Like, do they not know CLAMP? The women who gave Yuuko different outfits EVERY SINGLE FUCKING APPEARANCE that it's actually a PLOT POINT when she wore the same thing twice?! They could have designed Hokuto and Subaru a gazillion outfits by themselves, why the hell did they need to ruin their 30th freaking anniversary and plagiarize some shitty kpop outfits?!
I am literally boiling mad right now. How can they treat such VETERANS like this?! This is motherfreaking CLAMP we're talking about. Have they no shame?!

nice. can they please do same to Tsubasa RC?
God I wish. The TRC OVAs were really good and it's a shame we never got an ending.
Honestly I am a bit sad but not that much. They missed the mark in terms of designs. CLAMP are probably the best at making great and fashionable designs, and this is what we get? A rip off of a crappy kpop costume? And they can't even give subaru a hat?
Good riddance, I do hope whoever gets this now does a better job.
I did also read that Gohands barely even collaborated with CLAMP, which explains the really bad cosutme designs.
That explains a lot of things.

Hand Shakers and W'z looking almost the same, because they're in the same universe.
SCARD and K looking almost the same, inspiration from K, because their "glorious" 3DCG production is a one-way street and cannot be diversified.
Disappointing, please give another studio and a new production committee that can do the job better.

GoHands is on the verge of bankruptcy for quite some time now. They can't milk SYD forever and I'm afraid, this might be the final nail to the coffin.
Wait, what happened for them to end up on the verge of bankruptcy?
Its mostly cuz they are loosing trust from the production committiees and higher up ppl wont be wiling to entrust them any projects to work on which means no money to make for them which basicly means ur fcked once no more work is incoming to earn money and pay ur animators etc ur pretty much doomed.

Since the anime is a retelling of the original manga in modern times, either GoHands or the production committee thought that the manga's character designs were outdated for a 2021 setting. I can sorta see why they would want to change it, since Tokyo Babylon's character designs have a very 90's feel to it and it would've looked off in a 2021 setting.
I love 90's design!

If the studio will continues to make such mistakes, it will go bankrupt soon.
Good, Gohands is the joke of the anime studios. Scandals of tracing and fugly CGI.
Let them all fade in irrelevancy.
