An original anime titled Kaizoku Oujo (Fena: Pirate Princess) was announced at the Toonami panel during the Adult Swim Con on Sunday. The anime is scheduled to premiere on Adult Swim's Toonami programming block and stream on Crunchyroll in 2021. The project is being billed as a co-production between Adult Swim and Crunchyroll.

Synopsis
The series tells the tale of a young orphan girl, Fena Houtman. Fena has been raised on an Island where there is no hope of becoming anything more than chattel, to be used and discarded by soldiers of the British Empire. But Fena is more than just another powerless orphan. When her mysterious past comes knocking, Fena will break the chains of her oppressors. Her goal: forge a new identity, free of bondage, and search for a place where she can truly belong and find out the true mysteries behind a keyword "Eden."

It is the story of a lifetime adventure she and her crew of misfits and unlikely allies will have, in pursuit of her goals! (Source: Crunchyroll)

Kazuto Nakazawa (B: The Beginning) is directing the 12-episode anime at Production I.G.

Lol there's little chance this will be good if Crunchyroll had any real influence at all. Doesn't help that the plot already sounds bad. Real shame that instead of paying their employees, Crunchyroll is literally spending money to waste the time of anime studios by making generic anime like GOHS and probably this

And most those comments about ANN are blatant lies. Most the posts about her being white actually said "why is she so white". "so white" is. And no one denied white slaves existed. The complaints about her being white were more in response to her being from an island. Basically impossible to be that white and be from an island. Also the only posts that got deleted were because of personal attacks were used in an attempt to "win" an argument. ANN staff as a whole are a bit overzealous most of the time but this was not one of those times lol.

After 3rd eps, i think this anime is good enough and not that bad, 7/10 for me

Looks interesting I wonder if it is going to be any good making an original anime over an anime with source material

I don't trust Adult Swim and I definitely don't trust Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll picking up yet another project right after they picked up the Webtoon project. These guys just want to make some quick bucks, they don't care about quality. Instead of upgrading their servers, they are investing on this. Instead of bringing more titles to other countries instead of only US, they are investing on this shit.

Character designs and animation looks good but any US involvement like Crunchyroll is a big negative. But let's see.

In the 2000s a lot of really good anime had american companies on the production commitees so it's not like western involvment=bad. Plus this is still going to be a Japanese made.

2000s US society was chad and unwoke unlike now.

I’m intrigued. Definitely will watch when it comes out.

The West has changed a lot since then. Crunchyroll and Funimation higher-ups have a goal of embedding their values in the industry. Don't know much about Adult Swim, but in the current environment it's pretty much impossible to really not be part of that and work in American media.

Wow, Adult Swim attempting another anime. I grew up with Adult swim so seeing them advance more into creating their own anime is interesting. I look forward to watching it

The basic plot is orphan girl with a mysterious backstory gets a pirate crew of ninja samurais & fights back against her oppressors whoever they may be.

I genuinely struggle to comprehend what exactly is so bad about this. Its not exactly an original synopsis but nothing about it screams "Oh this will be crap" especially since we only have the fucking synopsis to go by which means we can only speculate about this.

But then I see your dig about Crunchyroll & it suddenly all adds up. This is less about the show itself & more you just disliking Crunchyroll. I don't use Crunchyroll much but I hope their contributions to this show in funding will be a good investment.

I

My post got deleted and all I said was that the synopsis sounded try hard. Apparently that was insulting or off topic or something. Screw those guys.
