An official website of a new anime movie "Loups=Garous" was launched on October 6th. It's based on Kyougoku Natsuhiko's sci-fi mystery novel "Loups=Garous Kihisubeki Okami". The movie will be premiered in 2010. A manga adaptation (Amazon) has been published in Monthly Comic Ryu since 2006.

Loups=Garous official website

Director: Fujisaku Jun-ichi ("Blood+")
Script: Goto Midori ("Tsubasa Chronicle: Tori Kago no Kuni no Himegimi"), Harada Sayaka (episode scenario of "Kemono no Souja Erin")
Original Character Design: Hashii Chizu
Animation Character Design & General Graphic Director: Ishii Meiji ("Prince of Tennis: The Two Samurai, The First Game")
Production Studio: Production I.G, Trans Arts

The story takes place in a near future. Population of mankind greatly decreased due to a killer virus. People avoid physical contacts ("real contact") with each other and most of the human activities are done online. In such a controlled world, a group of girls actively make real contacts. A serial murder killing only girls makes them confront the rule of the closed world.

The movie will tie-up with a Japanese rock band SCANDAL. The characters admire them as a rock band, which was popular in the distant past.

Looks like this could be good. I'll check it out.

Probably won't watch it but the director also did Blood+? That anime was pretty good, even though it was rather boring at times. In fact, I never managed to finish all 50 episodes. I made it pass the 30-episode mark though.

Why does this look like Blood+ 2.0?

I second Krayt's comment. Sounds like an interesting anime plus a tie in with SCANDAL? awesome!

It's "loups", plural of "loup", French for "Wolf." Pronounced like the name Lou.
Incidentally, "loups-garoux" means werewolves. It also rhymes. What fun this is. ^_^

So this movie will be about werewolves? And murders? And a deadly virus? Sounds like there's a virus turning people into werewolves who in turn are murdering girls. And apparently there's some virtual reality component to it as well, as per Viz's descrption of the manga.

Not sure what to think of it, to be honest. Looks kinda corny, but I do enjoy a good murder mystery. May watch for the possibility of lolcyberwerewolves, if nothing else.

So what is this anime, about anyway? I can't really say whether I would watch it or not without some more info. Looking at the author's previous works, this looks like it could be pretty violent as well. you fail at mythology?....

"The French name for a werewolf, sometimes used in English, is loup-garou (pronounced /lugaˈru/), from the Latin noun lupus meaning wolf. The second element is thought to be from Old French garoul meaning "werewolf." This in turn is most likely from Frankish *wer-wulf meaning "man-wolf."

Adding that to the storyline in the news, makes me really excited.
