The 12th and final episode of Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of Underworld ended with an announcement on Sunday that its second cours will premiere in April 2020.

The first half of Sword Art Online: Alicization aired over two quarters between Fall 2018 and Winter 2019. The second half, subtitled War of Underworld, debuted on October 13. Aniplex is listing eight home video releases for War of Underworld, consisting of 23 episodes in total.

Aniplex of America licensed the anime in North America and simulcasted it on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and HIDIVE. The company plans to ship the first 24 episodes on Blu-ray on April 21, 2020.

An orchestra concert featuring music from the series by composer Yuki Kajiura will be held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre Concert Hall on April 11, 2020.

Sword Art Online adapts Reki Kawahara and abec's adventure sci-fi light novel, which has been published through the Dengeki Bunko imprint since 2009. Kadokawa shipped the 23rd volume on December 10.

The first two anime seasons aired in 2012 and 2014. The Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale anime film, featuring an original story by Kawahara, premiered in Japan in February 2017.

Sword Art Online: Alicization ranked among the best television anime in this year's Newtype Anime Awards.

My girl Asuna is going to suffer more than Jesus in the crucification in this last part. She can handle it. After all she's a princess, a queen and a goddess.

Excellent news.
Though its going to be quite the wait the time will allow the studio to maintain both the quality and the pacing that they managed to achieve this season.
Both of which worked in parallel with the strong performances of the VA's to make this season one of the strongest within the series.

Can't wait till Spring to see the tide turn against Gabriel and his new allies.

Will this be the final anime adaptation of Sao, or is there any other arc after alicization which is yet to be adapted?

google Unital Ring its supposed to be the final story of SAO *hopefully*

It isn't the final arc. It's literally the first arc made by Kawahara for the main light novel as everything before was just from what he wrote before the light novels, from Aincrad to Alicization so in LN, from volume 1 to volume 20 including the 4 main arcs, Mother Rosario and other side stories.

The key visual on the official site says "The Last Season" (of Alicization World of Underworld arc)... will it be the official title?

Anyways, cannot wait for the continuation.

Seems like there'll be 11 episodes for the next cour after all. A little sad but I'm still looking forward to it!

Part 1 so far has been a visual treat to keep up with but the rushed content has been a big hinder imo so here's to hoping Part 2 will look a little brighter in that aspect. Probably wishful thinking from my part but I feel inclined to let it out anyway.

God, the Key Visual looks stunning though! Definitely hypes me up a bit!
