Warner Bros. Japan announced a live-action movie adaptation of Kenji Inoue and Kimitake Yoshioka's Grand Blue (Grand Blue Dreaming) manga on Wednesday. The movie, directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa (3D Kanojo: Real Girl, Kakegurui the Movie), is scheduled to open in theaters in Japan in early Summer 2020.

Synopsis
Among the seaside town of Izu's ocean waves and rays of shining sun, Iori Kitahara is just beginning his freshman year at Izu University. As he moves into his uncle's scuba diving shop, Grand Blue, he eagerly anticipates his dream college life, filled with beautiful girls and good friends.

But things don't exactly go according to plan. Upon entering the shop, he encounters a group of rowdy, naked upperclassmen, who immediately coerce him into participating in their alcoholic activities. Though unwilling at first, Iori quickly gives in and becomes the heart and soul of the party. Unfortunately, this earns him the scorn of his cousin, Chisa Kotegawa, who walks in at precisely the wrong time. Undeterred, Iori still vows to realize his ideal college life, but will things go according to plan this time, or will his situation take yet another dive? [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Inoue and Yoshioka began serializing the manga in good! Afternoon magazine in April 2014. Kodansha will publish the 15th volume (pictured right) on November 22. Grand Blue has a cumulative 4.4 million copies of its volumes in print.

A 12-episode television anime adaptation by Zero-G aired in Summer 2018. Amazon's Prime Video service exclusively streamed the show worldwide with subtitles.

Kodansha Comics licensed the manga in English in 2017 and shipped the eighth volume on October 29. Crunchyroll also simulpubs the manga digitally in English.

What about the 2nd season??

IMO many live actions recently are just to promote an eventual sequel to the original.

IF the series got the opportunity to have a LA, a S2 is probably on the way.

Why would they try to ruin the anime and manga with a live action

A second season would have been good enough, this live action is just going to make me cry..

I reckon they're probably only gonna go down to underwear.

I would much rather have seen a second season. Laughed my ass off in the first part. Imagine the comedy half as funny in this without all the slapstick stuff.

From my years of watching Japanese AVs (and hentai) I think they'll just pixelate blur it.

This might suck, but man it'd be great if this got the show to have a 2nd season to advertise it.

Wow, it will suck for sure. This manga is mostly about facial expressions actual human face can't replicate.

Live action I don't think it can work tbh. But we'll, they did pretty well with Gintama so I guess there's still some hope.

Omg! This is going to be so funny I know it! :)

it depends on how accurate their personalities are gonna be. there's an elephant style of underwear just to wrap it up nice and tusky.

Nice, this could work really well, casting will be key.
