Initially slated for a 2019 release, TV anime Tsukiuta. the Animation 2 has been postponed to a Spring 2020 broadcast. The announcement was made at Animate Girls Festival 2019 and posted to the official Twitter account on Saturday morning. Two key visuals displaying the new broadcast date were included with the post: one featuring the members of Six Gravity and the other of Procellarum.

Tsukiuta. adapts a series of music and drama CD centered on anthropomorphized months, which began as a collaboration between Vocaloid producers and popular voice actors. The first season aired during Summer 2016 for a total of 13 episodes. A second season was announced two years later, during Animate Girls Festival 2018.

In January, all-new staff members were revealed for Tsukiuta. the Animation 2, including a studio change from Studio Pierrot to Children's Playground Entertainment. Yukio Nishimoto (Ongaku Shoujo (TV)) is replacing Itsurou Kawasaki as director for the sequel. Natsuko Takahashi (Brothers Conflict) is handling the series composition, and Michinori Chiba (Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans) will design the characters alongside Ai Yokoyama (Uchuu Senkan Tiramisù).

Funimation streamed Tsukiuta. the Animation during its 2016 broadcast and later released two complete disc sets: a Blu-ray & DVD combo in September 2017 and an "Essentials" Blu-ray set in October 2018.
