Kyoto Animation posted a trailer for the Violet Evergarden side story on Tuesday, subtitled Ein to Jidou Shuki Ningyou, revealing two new cast members and previewing the film's theme song, "Amy," by Minori Chihara. The trailer was released along with further details on the film's official website.

Violet Evergarden Gaiden: Ein to Jidou Shuki Ningyou depicts the life of Isabella York, a noble woman and heir to the house of York who is forced by her father to attend a school for privileged young women. Despite the school's outward beauty, it is no more than a prison to her as she suffocates within its confines. With all hope lost she meets Violet Evergarden, who is assigned as her personal instructor. In the beginning, Isabella is not too fond of Violet, either.

Minako Kotobuki (K-On!) will voice Isabella. Aoi Yuuki (Gosick) was also announced as Taylor Bartlett, an orphan girl who visits during Violet's assignment. Voice actors playing members of the CH Postal Company will reprise their roles in the film, including Yui Ishikawa as Violet Evergarden.

The film's world premiere was held as planned at Germany's AnimagiC convention with showings on August 3 and 4, shortly after the July 18 arson attack on Kyoto Animation's No.1 studio. The official theatrical run will extend until September 26; it was previously scheduled to screen in select theaters in Japan from September 6 through September 19.

It seems like the production was already completed on July 17, one day before the fire. Also all staff will be credited on the ED.

I know, but everyone on the Internet reacts so much to the release of the trailer as if they had been working on it for 10-20 years.

Ok, but why does being sympathetic in regards to a tragedy bother you so much ?

Border ?! I just assumed that I missed some important information about their return.

If I didn’t know VE and in the trailer don't be a hint of het romance, then I would think that we are talking about some kind of MariMite-ish show.

I really love the pacing and the overall the delivery of emotions in this "Movie"
KyoAni did a really good job as well with small details you might not notice at the start
or first time watching. Violet Evergarden is one of the most beautiful written stories
and anime in terms of scenery, aesthetic and emotional. I probably will end up watching
it again to catch other details I might miss the first time I've watched it~

I really hope this Side Story gets all the attention it deserves; because I think
the message here is one that will accompany you the rest of your life.
I can only recommend to watch it when its finally out for the rest of the world.

This will be painful to watch for me... Thinking about how many amazing people who contribute to this are no longer among us...

Highly looking forward to this!

As expected, the trailer is just stunning with some gorgeous animation and listening to Minori Chihara is always very soothing. I'm really excited for the soundtracks that'll be playing too, because the tv series in this department absolutely excelled imo! Violet's journey is always a pleasure, and this is no exception to that either!

Can't wait for this and the upcoming 2020 Movie, really! I know for certain that I'll cry my eyes out yet again but no doubt that the fact that some of the wonderful people in the credit scene are of no more will be the most heartbreaking for me.
