Based on what i heard from my friend, Minimum sales that can be categorized as a successful anime is 10.000 copies/vol, less than it ,you can say it as a failure or mediocre.
so far, based on first volume release, Yuru camp with 12k and Yorimoi with 9k , is the successfull anime for this season, but yeah its still too early since some of other anime are not released yet.

I don't know why some try to make a case out of Citrus sales. The show was bad.
If Yuri doesn't sale, obviously bad Yuri sells even less, ... like Citrus.

As for Violet Evergarden, they made it quite high despite all the flaws of the show.

Actually has a small market in japan once the anime is released in more countries it will sell way more and it wasn't bad
Every one is different, velvet evergreen? Oh please it's meah

Violet evergarden was actually pretty much just as overhyped in Japan.. It was popular but a lot of people didn't feel like it met the praise it got/was getting.
Why it didn't become a huge hit salewise makes sense tbh

As expected, yuri anime never sells...

5.5K for Violet Evergarden makes me really happy.

Also happy to see more numbers added to Sora yori.

@CG: It's much, much more than just a CGDCT. Branding it as just another CGDCT is an insult to a potential anime of the year and we are just in April 2018. Yes. It was THAT good.

It's laughable that lesbo-lovers are complaining about low sales of "serious" lesbian shows while "serious" love stories about normal couples are almost extinct.
(Well, unless you want to consider "Takaki-san" ,which doesn't even feature a single kiss scene, a serious love story about a normal couple.)
Citrus could at least get an anime adaptation and sell more than 1k, despite its shoujo-like story and art-style, just because it's about two girls falling in love(?) with each other instead of a boy and a girl.
A trash story like "Slow start" could get an anime adaptation just because it's all about yuri-vibes.
And the reason why "serious" lesbo shows don't sell like queer-bait "slice of life" shows is kind of simple. Yuri-pigs(Yeah, they actually call lesbo-lovers "Yuri-buta" in Japan) in Japan, unlike western lesbo lovers, doesn't want to see 2D lesbo couples get serious and thus get a little dirty, like real world lesbo couples, most of which consist of angry dykes and fatties.
They just wanna see pretty girls doing pretty things and giving off just enough dose of lesbo vibes in beautiful 2D world.
It seems that anime industry these days is all about giving off as much queer vibes as possible and I'm a little sick and tired of this trend.

So, can we say that the adaptation of Citrus failed?

Wouldn't say so. Looking at the production committee low sales in terms of BD/DVD sales shouldn't hurt too much as they aren't exactly high on their priority list.

Also in japan yuri isn't a huge niche in japan anyway?

They got the some of the budget from cruncyroll to do S1 and did very well there.

Theses sales are not the only factor For S2
To be ever being done in future.

Those are some bad sales for Citrus. I kind of expected it to do better even though it's not my cup of tea at all.

Evergarden barely hanging on... as expected.

Stop yuri dosnt have a huge niche in japan
Anyway did ok least manga sales are up that helps a lot.

Citrus had way more then I expected. Again the physical volume market is dying. We surprised?

Glad to see Sora Yori is rising.

Yup, alot of people said it already, actual yuri shows never sell well. Yuri bait shows in other hand are succesfull in sales.
actual shit yuri shows never sell well
Why are they adaptating the shit ones instead of the good ones. Like i want a full 12 episode adaptation of Kase-san.

Pretty strong week2 for Yuru and Yori.
Nice. Didn't expect them to sell this many.

It's close to what hibike euphonium sold and i don't think it's considered a flop as a franchise.
Anyway it's an opinion but may it be possibile that being on netflix reduces the appeal of owning the phisycal copy?

Yeah I thought the same thing.
I don't think being on netflix affected it. You could always find 1080p BDrip torrents for almost every series but people still buy BD anyway.

I could think of a few possible reasons:
-It didn't actually get a big hype like in the west
-First few episodes didn't live up to the PV, 3 ep rule people went away
-Too many anime original episodes and changes, this drives off the original Violet novel fans
-Overall content doesn't appeal to many people

That said 5.5k in wk1 is good. Could surpass 6k in week 2, and 7k in week 3 if lucky.

Yorimoi still selling while yuru camp comes to a halt. Interesting.

Could it be because Sora Yori did not have enough stock to meet initial demand, so this week people who couldn't get a copy are grabbing theirs now?

Well that's surprising. I thought Violet Evergarden would sell as well as Yuru Camp. I know it's on Netflix but that's what I imagined for the dvd/bd sales

10k? Please, it would never have earned so much. I just have one question, why is the extremely blatant yuri-bait often selling pretty well (I'm not talking about Hibike or Nanoha, is it really a good show), while anime with openly homosexual girls regularly get a flop?

i just saw one of the comments saying they expected 10k and i was shocked
i don't know why either but it's true that yuri-bait and yaoi-bait sells and actual yuri and yaoi shows never sell, the only example of an actual yuri show like citrus that sold great that i can think of is maria-sama
anyways citrus is a manga adaptation so if the anime managed to boost the manga's sales it's still a success

Yes, it definitely will increase sales of yuri or yaoi manga. But at the same time, yuri or yaoi anime will remain in the form of qeerbaiting or the slasher's fantasies. But I want to see good anime with real lesbians, and not to listen to what some girl is "definitely a lesbian", because she and another girl are best friends.

Citrus' discs sales aren't exactly a flop, considering how low the disc publisher is in the production committee. The main parties in the committee are surely satisfied.
