Author Baku Yumemakura revealed in the afterword of his Chimera novel's new 13th volume (pictured) on Wednesday that the series will receive an anime film project led by Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell director). The announcement did not specify Oshii's role in the production.

Synopsis
The series follows Kou Ootori, an ordinary high school student who experiences a recurring nightmare of being eaten alive by a beast from within. However, when he meets Reiichi Kuki, an upperclassman who controls the school, the curtain of fate unravels.

Chimera is a science-fiction novel which was first published in 1982. Asahi Sonorama released the series in 16 bunkobon volumes between 1982 and 2002, which was followed by an eight-volume tankobon reprint between 2000 and 2002, with covers designed by Yoshitaka Amano in both editions. The series is currently receiving another reprinting by Asahi Shimbun Productions and Kadokawa, with cover art by Katsuya Terada and Shirow Miwa, respectively.

Should be interesting to see what the director who adapted Ghost in the Shell will do with this property.

I am expecting something like the hero experiencing a loss-of-body experience and him merging with animals.

As long as Mamoru Oshii is only taking the director role & not the screenwriter, I am in. He's a good director, not so much writing a script.

But i thought he quit because he realized anime audience is full of otakus.

Then I guess anime audience is not full of otakus anymore?

Its been a really long time since the last time Oshii worked on an anime.
This is going to be interesting whatever role he has in it.

My guess is Oshii will probably be the supervisor or somewhere far removed from the hands on direction role. I hope I am wrong but anything he is doing with anime will peak my interest. I can't judge on anything besides him because the source is unknown to me and there isn't any info to go off of.
