Original TV Anime 'Sarazanmai' Announced for 2019 [Update 3/7]

The first of three days of Shoujo Kakumei Utena all-episodes streaming live broadcast via Niconico on Monday has announced Kunihiko Ikuhara's new original TV anime by studio MAPPA and Lapin Track. Titled Sarazanmai, the anime is slated for 2019. Two more different teaser PVs will be available on second and third days of broadcast on March 6 and 7. The teaser PV hints the truth about human desires and being connected but alone.

Doesn't change the fact it was a GL manga nonetheless.

Ikuhara did some BL in Utena, with the black rose arc, or all the fan-service of the third arc.
So even if we're more used to some GL content, this anime being BL would not be surprising.

BTW, Utena's manga, even if there is common elements, is also quite different from the series. I haven't read the Mawaru spin-off, but I'm under the impression that each time the manga and the anime are made to be different, yet sharing a common ground. The thematic doesn't change, but the actual story and/or its evolution is different.

Mawaru Penguindrum is one of my most beloved anime of all time.. I am planning to watch Utena real soon. I am sooo excited, I love Ikuhara so much!!

Eh, Lesbobear was pretty interesting and novel though. I'd rather see stuff in that kind of vein than rehashing Gay Anime Penguindrum or Gay Anime Utena. Why rehash two masterpieces when you can explore an interesting direction?

The idea behind this is nice, I'm just worried that the final production is going to end up regurgitating the AI idea while trying to cover it up with a semi-interesting plot and story line. It's Ikuhara, so I'm obviously excited, but originality for new shows has been few and far between lately.

The trailer is vague, but I most definitely have high hopes and expectations :)
