'Made in Abyss' Sequel Announced

At the "Deep in Abyss" talk show event on Sunday, a sequel of the Made in Abyss TV anime series was announced. Toshiyuki Morikawa (JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Diamond wa Kudakenai) will join the cast as the new character Bondrewd.

Made in Abyss adapts the adventure fantasy manga by Akihito Tsukushi that has been serialized in Web Comic Gamma since October 2012, which currently has six compiled volumes in print.

Produced by Kinema Citrus, the anime aired in Summer 2017 for 13 episodes. Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga for North American release, and plans the publish the first volume on January 2, 2018.

Until the current manga arc is done we probably don't have enough source material to cover a full second season. Considering the current arc shows no signs of finishing up and how infrequently Tsukushi releases new chapters it won't be finishing up anytime soon.

I'm hype af for the movie though; it will adapt Bondrewd's arc which IMO is one of the best arc's of the manga. If you thought what's been animated so far was dark and brutal, then just you wait as things as things get even more messed up. Best dad here we come!

The anime was simply announced, it's likely not gonna be released till 2019 earliest so there should be plenty more material by then to keep the gap between the show and manga reasonable. Thing is it's not a very fast series release wise with chapters taking anywhere from 1-3 months to come out, so hopefully the popularity can boost that consistency a bit

So.. can somebody clear things up for me please ? The title of this threat clearly states it's a second season. However I've seen people in the comments saying that the announcement did not specify the format the sequel is going to have. So is it a second season after all or some sort of movie or OVA ?

I am little bit surprised that it got sequel so early given where the manga is.I personally wanted the sequel to come out when manga has progressed even further.Like when they are somewhat close to Riko's mother,Lyza.Nevertheless still exited to see that portion animated.And for those who are worried about BD and DVD sales,they are actually very good considering today's physical media market in Japan.Also Abyss's BDs and DVDs are expensive compared to a normal show's BDs and DVDs and still sold around 5.6k which is solid instead. Not only that,OST also did very well and it ran out of stocks in major places in Japan many times.And that is about Japan only because OST is also doing well in foreign market.And most importantly manga sales have increased quite significantly.
