An official website has launched for a live-action TV series of Homura Kawamoto and Tooru Naomura's Kakegurui (Kakegurui: Compulsive Gambler) manga on Wednesday. Tsutomu Hanabusa (Heroine Shikkaku, Asahinagu) will direct the TV drama, which is scheduled to air on Mainichi Broadcasting System (MBS) and TBS' "Doramaism" (Dramaism) programming block on January 14, 2018 at 2:40 a.m. and January 16, 2018 at 1:28 a.m., respectively. Naomura has drawn a commemorative illustration (pictured) for the announcement.

Kakegurui has been serialized in Square Enix's Gangan Joker magazine since March 2014, and currently has eight compiled volumes in print, with the latest released on August 22. The series received a 12-episode TV anime in Summer 2017 by studio MAPPA. Yen Press licensed the manga for North American release, and published the third volume on November 21.

AAAA- so excited! Even with the bad sales, I'm excited to see more Kakegurui.

Live Action would work for Kakegurui since it is more or less just a Gambling series. The only downside to this is more likely the facial factor being lost.

Oh wow, didn't the anime flopped or have a disappointment in sales? So I'm surprised they're doing a live action when all those reaction faces in the anime doesn't really sell to people.

The anime was horrid enough.

I'm optimistic as I am with any live action film or series like it is here based on a manga / anime. Apart from the facial reactions it's fairly easy to pull off but they were one of the most memorable things from the anime so you don't wanna mess that up. Will be interesting to see either way.

No doubt this is unlikely to get a release over here but maybe Netflix can grab it if the anime does well for them. Here's hoping.

Lol... With so many anime actually suitable for L-A you always have to wonder why the ones that are impossible to replicate in another medium are chosen.

Can't wait for the Shokugeki no Souma live action adaptation.

Hey man.. that's not funny. I could see them doing that.

Can't wait for real life ahegao faces! Haha, lol.

I wonder how the actors can mimic those rape faces like in both manga and anime. It would be better if the live-action series would follow the original story of manga than the original ending of the anime.

They love their live action adaptations so why not.

Impossible for a 3D girl to acts like yumeko

Nov 22, 2017 12:23 AM by tragedydesu

SERIOUSLY? Okay I really did not anticipate this. But to replicate those epic faces... it's gonna be really challenging for the actors. I wonder who's gonna be Yumeko? Oh the one portraying Midori would be so fxcked up lol.
