The official website of Shogakukan's Weekly Shounen Sunday has revealed on Wednesday that author Shinobu Ohtaka will end her Magi manga in four chapters. The series is expected to end in the magazine's 47th issue to be released on October 18.

Magi began its serialization in June 2009 and currently has 35 compiled volumes in print, with its 36th volume scheduled for release on October 18. The series won the 59th Shogakukan Manga Award for the shounen category in 2013. A-1 Pictures adapted the manga into two 25-episode anime seasons in Fall 2012 and Fall 2013.

A prequel manga to the main series drawn by Yoshifumi Ohtera titled Magi: Sinbad no Bouken has been serialized in Ura Sunday since May 2013, and currently has 15 compiled volumes in print. The series inspired a 5-episode OVA series and a 13-episode TV anime by Lay-duce.

Viz Media has been releasing the manga for North American release since 2013, and recently published the 25th volume on August 8. The series has also been released in various languages, including Spanish and Polish, among others. Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic was simulcast in various regions via Crunchyroll, while Magi: The Kingdom of Magic was simulcast on Daisuki and Animax UK in addition to Crunchyroll. The anime series were also licensed by Aniplex of America for North American distribution.

Uh, wow. People who were hoping for an ending that wasn't rushed may be disappointed.

The manga ends October 11 instead of October 18.

I really enjoyed this series. It's a shame the final few chapters got so convoluted. The sense of scale was shattered at the end to the point that it became hard to grasp what was even going on.

Too bad the author doesn't know where to extend the series and is force to end it rapidly for the final arc. I wonder if an anime adaption would make the ending arc easier to enjoy and understand.

it does feel like it's ending. A bunch of stuff are happening and all the main villains are out there. Anime watchers would be very confused though cuz a lot of stuff happened and changed.

Used to be one of my favorite mangas a few years back, but the story turns into complete shit after the magnostadt arc, I regret the fact that I wasted my money buying some of the manga volumes in the past now..

Hopefully we'll get a third season for this. If not I'll just read the manga from where I left off.

Been more than 2 years since I finished S2, guess I will start reading the manga from first chapter very soon (doubt there will be more adaptations to the main series).

That's a bummer. I really loved this last arc.

I'm glad that it is ending. This series has become rather dull, especially with this last arc. I wasn't expecting it to end so soon though since it still seems to be rather popular for others.

That's how I feel too. This last arc dragged way too much but I expected it go on much longer in true endless shounen tradition.

It was a nice manga. Some people say that the last arc was confusing and bad, but I still think it was pretty good, I guess that it was a bit different from the previous ones and there was too many things introduced in it.

One less manga to read weekly ;_;

Not really surprised, I assumed it will end by the end of this year. I like Magi, the last arc however... honestly it's not that entertaining, but I am glad it's ending, and I'm looking forward to Shinobu Ohtaka's next work, really like her art and her characters.

Not surprising to hear it. Still, despite liking this manga, I am kind of glad to hear its finally ending, since the story has been going downhill for a long while.

Been reading this for years. Sad to see it go for sure and I'll miss it.

Hope the author's next project will be great too.

I was honestly surprised when I saw this news, with this popularity I expected mangaka to keep going :o Although 35+ volumes is impressive volume count anyway I guess.

Definitely on my plan-to-buy list.
