It was announced at the Girls und Panzer stage in Owarai Haru Matsuri Kairaku Festa on Sunday that the previously announced Girls und Panzer: Saishuushou will be six-part movies. Titled Girls und Panzer das Finale, the first movie will premiere on December 9. The movies will also be screened in three sets in 4DX and MX4D after the second part premieres. Each set of 4DX/MX4D screening will consist of two movies. The first set will consist of the first and second part, the following set will consist of the third and fourth part, and the last set will consist of the fifth and sixth part.

The first season of Girls und Panzer ran for 12 episodes from October 2012 to March 2013. It has since been adapted into various mediums including manga spin-offs and OVAs. The first movie of the franchise, Girls und Panzer der Film, premiered in November 2015 and earned over 2.4 billion yen (approximately US$20.51 million), becoming the tenth highest grossing domestic film of 2016 in Japan. The movie placed third in the Newtype Anime Awards in 2016 under Best Picture category.

I'm so sad that they are gonna kill off my favorite anime. I see soo much more potential for where this whole series could go without repetition of the lets save the school thing. but, I suppose all amazing things must come to an end. Damn it tears stop it, you are gonna fry my new computer.........whose name Is Momo.....(crying endlessly) You will always live on so long as my heart still beats Girls und Panzer. I dropped my views on anime after seeing the first episode and it has helped change my life significantly. It brought me out of depression and suicide and has allowed me to live happy, and they are gonna kill it off. T_T T_T T_T

LMAO i thought 1 movie would be 2 hours long.
that would be epic tho i think.
but 40 min for 1 movie and 2 movie will be aired at the same time, i think that is a good news since they can take time with making the animation. i really expects more than the movie. looking forward for this shit xD

i think it's a good decision to split it. i think they want to make it look good so they think if they do it the usual way they probably think they would ruined it. so they split it.

DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

Awesome news

Der Film was a masterpiece. If there are going to be those types of battles in the 6 parter, there will be more tears of joy.

Panzer vor!

Make the battles in them as whack as those in the first film and I'm sold

Usually, I don't like stagnated releases like this and the code geass spin off for example because I lose interest and forget about it in between the many months of waiting. Still, I'll probably see this one till the end. I wonder if they'll be able to top the film's epic battles though...

@Darek: Yes. It's basically it.

That is good news, it also reminds me I need to watch der film finally.

@zenjamibu so it will be somewhat the same length as a 12 episode season? K.

There's no info. for that from the official site as of now.

Actually, the info about the "GuP das Finale 6-part OVA series will consist of roughly 40 minutes each part" was revealed at the Oarai Anglerfish Festival last November 12, 2016 during the Girls und Panzer Talk event segment according to Director Tsutomu Mizushima. But it could still change when further info comes out in the coming months.

Assuming it's a full 2-hour movie x6, I'd be surprised to see them come up with 12 hours' worth of material without the quality dropping significantly.

If, however, it's say, 50-min movies/OVAs then it won't feel like a coherent story as
a. it could be split into numerous OVAs, making the viewers wait on possible cliffhangers
b. we'd be looking at short stories-- one per OVA/movie-- which isn't necessarily bad but not the franchise's strong suit in my opinion. GuP works better with whole arcs respectively sagas

I'm a die-hard fan of the panzer girls but I've got a weird feeling about this project...

So it's basically season 2 in the cinemas .. can't wait for that.
Long live GuP!

only one way to respond to this good news

PANZER VooOR!!!!!

Damn that's a lot of films, 1st movie premiering in December, and considering there's 5 more, this will span out until 2020 my duds.

Aww, I was hoping the Final Chapter of GUP would be a TV Series but considering how they earned a shit ton of money from Girls Und Panzer Der Film, this makes sense. I actually welcome Actas' approach because:

1)Their production has and will always be a mess. Delays for Long Riders, Regalia and GUP...If Final Chapter were a series and this were to happen then I'd rather get a movie

2)Movie-like Tank Battle Quality..HELL YEA!

6 Part Movies though? That's a lot :0..I'm pretty sure the duration of each movies are going to be similar to Kizumonogatari.

The BD is going to be an expensive beast, it's pretty much a full length anime release on it's own. Also what's up with finales being shown in theaters first these days?
It's the finale. Gotta go out with a bang, you know..Also, movies usually have more budget to spare than a TV Series so there's that.

Thats great that Actas is doing it in movie format instead of TV series.
their track record with their last series has been horrible so its perfect for them.

That's gonna be a wait and a half. Hopefully it takes less than a year to release all of them.

Dunno where but i also saw that each movie would be 40mins long, think i saw it on ANN or some twitter news. Well it would make sense since spliting it into 6parts of 40mins would be the same lenght as a 12ep tv series.
