Mainichi Broadcasting System (MBS) and its sister network Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) announced on Tuesday that they will be ending the anime programming block known as Nichigo, a shortened name for the 5 p.m. time slot on Sundays. Nichigo was first launched in April 2008 to replace the Doroku anime programming block, which aired at 6 p.m. on Saturdays from 1992 to 2008.

Nichigo, which previously aired major titles such as Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199, and Boku no Hero Academia, will end its run in March 2017. Beginning in April, Nichigo will be combined with the existing 7 a.m. Saturday anime programming block into a new early Saturday morning segment named Anisata (short for Anime Saturday).

The Anisata segment will be the first time that the two Japan News Network-affiliated broadcasters air a one-hour anime programming block since the back-to-back airing of Macross and Ai no Senshi Rainbowman in 1983.

This is... potentially concerning. It may be a signal that the anime studios simply cannot afford to pay to air their anime during that prime time slot, so MBS had to move it to a "cheaper" time slot in order to actually have some anime to show. (This is all just speculation of course, but "nichigo" was a step down from "doroku", and now "anisata" appears to be the same move)

Not only that that, it will affect Gundam since it's often on that time slot. Moving it to late night could cost the franchise dearly.

@Swifty,
Yeah, TV ratings, basing on first few episodes I presume?
And why a single show aired in Spring will cause that?
Besides, it's BD sales was fine. And it boost the manga sales, + MAL good rating.

A hater spotted, just create a review on it.
My Hero Academia aired last Spring, so what does it had to do with this?
And you don't have any bases for your claim.

I'm not a hater though? I thoroughly enjoyed both the TV anime adaptation and the manga. Am I maybe overstating how much of an effect it's poor TV ratings had on the block? Sure, but the fact of the matter is that it DID have poor TV ratings.

I think it is more about the rise of Internet tv, more and more series are now being watched on (legal and illegal) internet streaming services

Similarly to what a couple people above me asked, I wonder what time slot Boku no Hero S2 will air in now.......

Wonder what time slot BnHA 2 will air in now.

So IBO 2 is the last show to air in that timeslot then. I was assuming that BnHA 2 would air in the same timeslot in April but with this it'll probably air in a different time.
