Whoa, at large American conventions they just empty out after a day and then stay empty the whole weekend.

What do you expect, its part of their culture. It'd be a miracle if a convention here where I live reaches a staggering 10k visitors.

Hehe in the US we have this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_Daisy_Carnival

140k people not bad.

The SakuraCon n our state has almost 400,000 every year come

And a really beawoo commercial.

That's amazing! The Japanese government should make this a holiday of some sort so that they can at least make some sort of revenue off of this.

Yeah, I've experienced that first hand. Good thing they refilled those ATMs. I've been at cons where things reach a weird kind of crisis when all the ATMs are empty and you have to wander town to find one or something >.>

July 2–5, 2009 >> Attendance: 164,000
It's not bad either considering France is not really a big country.

In Italy we have this: http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucca_Comics_%26_Games (pfff, no English page. Seriously. >_>)
Attendance in 2008: 130,000+
I guess that's not bad either, but I'm loosing interest in the thing as the time passes. I went to Comiket once and that's the kind of thing I would be interested to.

Wow, I would have love to waited in line. *O*

This is a good note though, instead of taking money out of an ATM, take lots of money out that you would need the day before and hide it somewhere, discreet instead of a wallet so no one will rob you.

nobody is gonna rob you in Japan, I regularly walk about with 100,000+ yen

Say what you want, but don't forget to be thankful to these hardworking otaku. Without them, the anime industry couldn't have lasted very long. They're the ones who carry the whole industry on their backs.

The problem is that the shows that make great money from merchandise very often aren't the shows that I'd like to see getting more support ><

The appearance of shows like K-ON, Sengoku Basra and Queen's Blade are a direct result of these peoples' spending habits.

Well, that's the problem, there.

I think France holds the world's largest anime expo/convention outside of Japan....France was one of the first countries that embraced Japanese anime/manga culture (yes, China did that before but they were pirated goods)

Its a shame just over the pond in the UK, Anime is virtually unheard of, having an anime convention attracts really low numbers, the only thing that can measure up is the London MCM Expo I think, that has around 30,000+ people attending but that covers everything from geek culture; comics, movies, games and manga/anime..
