Kobe Newspaper reported that a 29 year old man was arrested for setting his own house on fire. A whole two-story house was burnt down.

The man deposed that he attempted a suicide because his 55 year old mother threw away his plastic models of Gundam. He dashed heating oil over himself but escaped from the burning house unhurt.

IT Media reported that his mother didn't throw away the models, but she put them in trash bags without his permission. He saw all the models disappeared from the room and jumped to the wrong conclusion. In the end, he burnt his collections by himself. Police estimated that he had collected almost all the models and the goods of Gundam available.

I think he overreacted, i know it's depressing if your valuable thing is missing but still burning a house is kinda O.o

Reminds me of that video where the kids flips out because his mom shut down his WoW account.

Except, the kid didn't burn the house down, just lost a lot of brain cells.

If this was me, I'd spite her and buy another gundam model and make her life miserable.

Thats not how a 29 year old man should react to that. -_-

Welcome to Japan.

Let's consider the possibility that this guy was on the edge of suicide anyway, and felt he couldn't talk to his family because they were too stressful.

Suddenly his actions look less stupid and more emotionally disturbed.

Unfortunately the planet doesn't have the resources to give a comfy hospital bed and lots of fun medications to everyone who's crazy, so most of us just muddle along on our own.

His mom clearly underestimated the Gundam's power.

This is actually sensible. Gundam model kits can cost hundreds of thousands- if your mother threw away hundreds of thousands of your currency, you'd probably feel pretty suicidal.

FEEL pretty suicidal is the key here. Sensible people won't act on these impulses. This is not sensible.

Lets see:
He FAILED to protect his models.
HE FAILED to notice that they are just in trash bags and not "gone" yet.
He FAILED to kick out his mother before all of this began
He failed to set himself on fire, in process burning his house and his gundam models.

Well thats....wow...This one person officially deserves the "I suck at life" tattoo on his ass....

Haha, well made points!

Well, that's just dumb. Typically when you lose something, the thought process is look for them first before setting yourself on fire.

This story is now totally hilarious.

29 yr old living with his mom...

..considering the amount of money needed to buy a house/flat and the bills you need to pay. Its expensive to live alone there.

But KIDS in animu live alone in apartments and houses all the time!

Well, if ZZ's OP taught us anything, it's ANIME JA NAI~!

I wish people would stop quoting this part. Its perfectly normal in Japan.

While such cases are mostly attributed to otaku, living with your family members IS encouraged there, considering the amount of money needed to buy a house/flat and the bills you need to pay. Its expensive to live alone there.

I seriously laughed my ass off after reading this. xD I think it's time to pull out the EPIC FAIL card.

What an idiot...

Why burn yourself when the obvious solution would be to burn the mom?

Agreed, then he wouldn't have end up burning his own collection like a moron.
