Oricon doesn't count digital. ever.
Based on sales from other mediums, Japan doesn't buy a lot of digital stuff. They're the kind of people who like to collect things.
.
Thanks for the answer.
BEsides hardcore otaku, I reaaaly doubt they are more akin to collect than western countries. One reason the DVD/BD are still stuck in the rental pricing after so long is because peoples don't buy, they rent in japan. Even if they lower the price, they still don't buy and keep renting. I can confirm the size of rental shops in japan is something else, and there's enough around for an easy access, we don't have that in France. A population who has a huge habit of renting can hardly go well with a habbit of collecting a lot of stuff.
They may not like digital, but I don't think that has to go with collecting really, except for a minimal part of the population.

BTW does those figures include the digital sales like amazon selling their kindle version of a lot of stuff? Do we even know what kind of ratio there is in sales between digital and physical? Japaneses usually don't have a lot of place to store their book, so wouldn't they be quite interested in the digital version?

But as far as i know, Mahouka and SAO don't have digital versions as Dengeki never gave them one.

What's going on with Mahouka and SAO, usually both would have passed 200k and 300k respectively by now right?
SAO 15 took 7 weeks to hit 300k
Mahouka 16 took 4 weeks to hit 200k
in both cases these are the fastest times of any volume to reach this figure. This is the 5th week for these volumes but they came out on Saturday, which was before the "official" release date of Monday, so it's effectively the 4th week.
Incidentally someone mentioned a few weeks back about a retailer stopping reporting their figures to Oricon. Does anyone have a source on this as a somewhat unnatural number of series seem to have seen larger than usual sales drops over the last few months?

Whaaat, Haganai has just now ended? :O I want to know what happens, just make the 3rd season of anime already ;_;
2. A summary was already posted last week if you really insist on torturing yourself: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1424083#msg42007447
Uhh I don't plan to spoil myself yet, because of manga, but now I'm seriously worried :/
If I had to guess it's either.
1. Sena doesn't win - which is bad by itself, but could be even worse:
2. Garbage let's all be friends to not ruin our club ending
Hope I'm wrong though...

Just read the link somebody posted with the ending summary.
It was so fucking bad I think I almost cried. Holy fuck.
Idk how the author took the perfect setup (from wherever the LNs were at where season 2 of the anime ended) and just fucking shhiiiiiiitttt alllllllllll ovvverrrrr ittttt.
That ending is so bad, it would be like if Index ever ended, at it was all just a dream with Touma in a coma with all of the doctors and nurses shitting on his chest everyday; covering him in a mountain of shit until the bacteria kills him slowly.
yeah..the only worst ending I can think of is Oreimo's..
hoooooooly shit. Don't even fucking get me started on that. First season good. First season OVA good. Second season good. Second season OVAs good except for the last goddamn one. Literally just watch the 1st of the 2 OVAs and stop, and the show is great. Or skip them altogether.

Index surpasses 100k and the author isn't bothering anymore to make the volumes decent, so why so surprised. Also, did you see Infinite Stratos' sales? That's far far worse than Index yet still sell like 60k :/

'Kuroshitsuji: Midori no Majo-hen' Announces Main Cast
Dec 8, 8:55 AM by DatRandomDude1 Comment
According to this article on CNET Japan, when you look at the actual numbers digital books are performing in Japan as well as they do in America, representing roughly 10% of the entire book market in 2013. The amount of titles available from regular publishers are also comparable (taking into account the difference in population size), though self-publishing is far much more bigger in the West.
But as far as i know, Mahouka and SAO don't have digital versions as Dengeki never gave them one.
They actually announced a few days ago that they will release digital versions of all Mahouka, AW and SAO (including Progressive and Alternative) volumes over the next few months:
http://mobile.dengeki.com/dbclub/
I see, thanks. So only 10% in average then. But since not every book has a digital version, it also means that for boks having a digital version, it may be quite a bit above 10%. Depends if most best sellers have a digital version or not, I suppose.
