Look at this disgrace getting an anime XD lmfao

-_- Honestly Studio Bones should be animating Toriko now that Toei has dropped it. Studio Bones will do an amazing job with Toriko and I see their art-style fitting well with Toriko's.

Toriko does need an anime though

Thanks man. This must of took you a long time. This is really cool data. And yeah since its only top 10, One Piece may be winning though not guaranteed either way. Anyway after this week I don't think NNt is going to be in the first place since this will be the second week that OP's new volume will be out. That should give additional of 1 million + sells. But NNT is really killing it, though not surprised by it.

@Dragon88

I made a spreadsheet with all the data, with total sales so far calculated:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10K_N1R6l8reAqL4mioBECSNIJ6iqDo2FcouN79dg0Vc/edit?pli=1#gid=956523096

Nanatsu no Taizai has charted every single week since November 17, 2014.

Based on the data here, the most likely top 10 will be...
*1 5,810,510 七つの大罪
*2 4,960,245 ONE PIECE
*3 3,323,513 暗殺教室
*4 2,107,394 進撃の巨人
*5 1,752,514 ハイキュー!!
*6 1,545,441 テラフォーマーズ
*7 1,516,819 東京喰種:re [Corrected due to weekly sales falling under the thresholds]
*8 1,497,860 アオハライド
*9 1,341,461 東京喰種
10 1,272,507 NARUTO

However, bear in mind we only get the Top 10 Manga Series each week. I have included the thresholds in the 2nd last column of the spreadsheet, so series that did not make the top 10 in a week did not necessarily sell 0 copies for that week. If a series had volumes in the top 500 manga, those are counted, but may not be enough to make the top 10.

See ONE PIECE for example, it only has data there for 7/20 of the weeks so far in the first half of 2015. It could very well be beating Nanatsu by now due to the thresholds, but obviously it will be above it eventually due to how strong its sales are.

Those data above looks weird and does not seem to make much sense. Why is there 2 numbers next to each other. But anyway I went back and looked at some data, any NNT really killed it. But not sure about the final numbers you guys showed. But it looks like NNT is in top 2 at least.

First column is the weekly rank, second is the weekly sales from the Top 500 manga (as released by Oricon), third is the weekly sales that charted in the Top 50 manga (as released by Oricon, but I tallied this up). So the third column sales will be less than or equal to (if all the sales are in the Top 50 manga) the second column sales.

I even provided a key there... so do I need to make it more explicit?

Cool thanks. Actually I figured it out while looking at other sales data. I was looking at the top 50 weekly sales data since November 16 2014 and I figured that out from there. Also a quick question lot of those titles are written in Japanese, do you have the english translation or is NNT not in the top 10 after the week of January 25th.

Here are the weekly manga series sales from Nov 17 to Apr 5 (as the 2014 yearlies was counted up to Nov 16, 2014). Oricon only counts sales up to rank 500 for manga individual volumes, so these series sales are the Top 10 combined sales from the Top 500 manga every week. This should somehow help in figuring out which manga series will be the top sellers for the 1st half of 2015 through a spreadsheet or whatever.

Ignore the "weekly charted sales", as I only copied and pasted the data from the News Club, before we stopped updating it 2 months ago.

I am surprised by how well Assassination Classroom in doing. I think for the first half of 2015 it might actually be #3 in rankings in sales with OP being #1 and AOT being #2. The thing with Assassination Classroom is that old volumes are selling too. For some reason lot of people are buying the old volumes. I actually see a competition between Assassination classroom, Tokyo Ghoul and Nanatsu no Taizai for #3 spot for the first half of 2015.

Tokyo ghoul and Tokyo ghoul:re's sales are counted separately so it won't chart near the top ten this time.

- copies printed (unlikely - this is commonly used for individual volumes but for a series as a whole it's meaningless)

That gets used for sales outside of Japan though. For example, Naruto was announced to have 200 million prints worldwide. Announcement like this too.

Also US manga sales, are prints, not the actual figures if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks. Searching around the linked sources it seems the 82070k figure comes from the Shueisha's Media Guide 2013, so yes it is from the publisher.

Incidentally, that site lists figures which could provide a different way of measuring when the series was at its peak - the initial print run figures for individual volumes. Note that this one thus comes under the "copies printed" and is based entirely on how well Shueisha expected the volume to sell rather than how well it actually did sell, but these figures peaked in the mid 20s - early 30s in volume numbers, and were just starting their drop during 2009.

What's the source? If it comes from the publisher (which just about all announcements of total sales figures for series do) it will be one of the following three things:
- copies printed (unlikely - this is commonly used for individual volumes but for a series as a whole it's meaningless)
- copies shipped
- copies shipped minus copies returned

If you use the math and logic you will find out that it was before 2006.

So just a baseless assumption.

Base was "after volume 59 was out, overall sales was 82,070,000.", genius. lol

What you are referring to is an average, what I'm referring to, is the literal highest volume sale.

For example, HxH average sale per volume is more than 2 million, but there is no volume, that sold 2 million in it's first print, or in one year of release.

Question was "How much did Bleach sell at its peak?", and averege proves that 2009 wasn't even close to its peak.

Those figures you quoted, though, mostly consist of long tail data. The sales figures you quoted above for 2009 show that less than half of the sales in that year were for the volumes released that year.

Furthermore, I assume your 82070k figure is number shipped, rather than number sold. Number shipped will always be higher than number sold (sometimes significantly so). Furthermore, number sold will always be higher than the number that Oricon reports as having been sold, given that Oricon doesn't include all retailers/sales methods.

Apr 9, 2015 11:44 AM by kuuderes_shadow

I guess it would be 2004 or 2005, because of the anime boost, I thought the anime started in 2006, so that's why I claimed 2009.

2009 is the last recorded peak, then.
