Viz Media cancels release of Mar
Viz Media has confirmed its cancellation of release plans for all future domestic DVDs of the Mar anime series. They still have domestic distribution rights to the series and are re-evaluating the series' domestic availability methods. According to their PR firm, "As in the case with all entertainment companies, we are constantly evaluating the titles we release and how they are released and at this present time these titles are under evaluation, we do however still have the license to produce these titles and they are still available for viewing on Toonami Jetstream."

SageShinigami: Trust me, there are *that* many. XD Since MAR chapters are relatively fast/short, each episode can actually take up about 3-4 chapters (or more)... so when they were waiting for the manga to catch up, they made a whole ton of fillers. Even though I downloaded all of the episodes, I didn't really want to sit down and watch all of them... instead, I spent about 5 minutes per ep and skipped through all of them. I don't like how they f**ked up the anime ending either... it felt like a Sailor Moon x Dragon Ball Z ending =_=;; (But then I must say I wasn't particularly fond of manga ending either... it's too straightforward and predictable... I was quite disappointed)
Pretty much, for the fillers stories they kinda dug up every character in MAR possible and developed their character / tell us about their background (as opposed to manga, where there is almost no character development except for the main characters). Some of them were good but some of them were just meh -.-; The series started to suck when they caught up with manga... like most other anime series does. But I guess one of the things that's good about the fillers were... there were many things I wanted to see happen in manga but didn't, and most of them were covered by anime. So I'll give them the credit for covering everything (just not in the best way possible).
Also, don't compare anything with classics like Dragon Ball. XD

I liked MAR, but it never quite caught on here. Part of that was probably that they screwed up in the initial airing. Airing episodes in the most random order possible. The series itself is short compared to most shonen though. Its like 100 eps? (Just checked, 102.) Naruto's twice that. DBZ is almost 3x that. One Piece is 4x that.
Don't know about fillers...can't be THAT many, as the thing only had just over 100 chapters to begin with. Oh well. Releasing it by volumes is silly anyway. Boxsets are the only way to go for shonen series--or any long-running series, at that.

I was never a big fan of Mar. I always found it sorta dull.

I've never seen or heard of Mar before now. But fillers don't sound appetizing.

MAR has too many fillers... and it's quite long. I guess it's expensive to do them all since it's not too popular... Oh well, at least they did release all volumes of manga, and that's good.

A little update on the situation.
Looks like there may still be some hope concerning boxed releases.
